Hello and welcome to an interview with the lovely AlwaysSunny.
What may I call you?
You can call me Sunny.
Okay, Sunny. What first got you into writing about superheroes?
Well I think it started when I became obsessed with the shows Supergirl and The Flash and I said "That. I want to write about that." Then I started watching more superhero movies so I wasn't completely clueless to the whole super world XD
Respectable reasons. Supergirl and The Flash are great superhero shows. Though, I'd have to say Daredevil is my personal favorite. Have any of the shows and/or movies you've watched influenced your books in a significant way?
Daredevil is next on the list! Haha. The shows/movies were influential in the way they gave me some ideas as far as plot goes so yes I suppose.
That's great. Drawing inspiration from other stories while also making it your own is what makes writing so fun, in my opinion of course.''When Lightning Strikes'' seems to have garnered a lot of attention. 100k reads is a great achievement, so congrats on that. What was it like writing that story?
Of course! I agree!
Thank you! I still can't believe it myself. In all honesty, I never expected it to gain so much popularity. The book was actually very fun to write, because I felt like I was living inside of the book with Della (the main character) and her friends. There's a lot of similarities between Della and myself, so the story was very personal to me. It was like I was writing myself into a world of superheroes and villains and putting on a mask.
I often find myself doing that too when writing a book I'm passionate about. I also can relate to putting some of myself into my characters. For those who haven't read your book and aren't familiar with the story, would you mind giving them a short summary of it?
Absolutely! It's about a city full of villains, where there hasn't been a hero in 12 years. Villains run rampant through the streets, crime is at its peak. The biggest question on everyone's mind is where is Titania, the heroic super that took down Steel Hawk? Della waits for someone else to step up to the plate, but when no one does, she takes action. What she doesn't expect is for Red Raven, the town's biggest threat, to recognize her behind the mask. Della faces the battle of trying to defeat Red Raven when he knows her every move. With the assistance of her friends and some help from an unexpected ally, she may be able to take back the city from Red Raven. Would you dare to be the hero?
Wow! That sounds like a really cool story. I can see why it has picked up the fanbase that it has. Even though you've finished the story, is there anything you'd change about it if you could? Perhaps a character's backstory or an extra fight scene?
I think if I could go back, I'd develop the conflict plot a little more. I also plan to go back at some point and add more detail to fight scenes because the beginning of the story seems to lack details in that category.
Besides being apart of the superhero genre, what other subcategories would you say your book falls into?
I would definitely say action and adventure. There's a dash of romance but it's not the main focus.
Ah, action and adventure tend to be the most popular genres for superhero stories. Would you ever write a story in another genre?
Yes, and I have before haha. I've written in Chicklit (a modern fairytale), Teen fiction romance, Dystopian, Short story, and poetry.
Oh wow! That's a pretty diverse group of books. I think an author can really show their quality if they can write in multiple genres.
For the last question, we're going to step away from writing. Who is your favorite superhero (or villain) and why?
Well thank you! Hmmm. That's a tough one. I'd have to go with Wonder Woman or The Flash. But there are many wonderful original superhero characters on Wattpad!
That's all the questions I've got for you. Is there anything you'd like to say or discuss before we wrap up?
I think that's it! Thank you for the interview! And thanks to all who nominated me! :D
No problem! You deserved it.
