Hello and welcome to an interview with the lovely thebirdandquill. What may I call you
You can call me M.
Nice to meet you, M. Let's talk about your book ''The Super Six''. What inspired you to write this particular story?
One of my close friends convinced me to write a book about our friends as superheroes. All of us are huge Marvel(and DC I guess) nerds, so writing us as superheroes was like the seeing all of our idols in ourselves. It was an idea that took control of my imagination. Next thing I knew I was writing like mad. By the time a month had passed, I had published close to 15 chapters and had drafts for multiple story lines ready.
I bet you're really grateful for your friends. Also, your work rate is truly inspiring. I could never write 15 chapters in a single month, haha.
How far into your story are you? Is it currently completed or are you still working on chapters for it?
I'm pretty grateful for them. Considering they let me manipulate their fictional lives. Currently I'm on a hiatus for Super Six, but I'm considering rewriting on my other account: spqr_queen. BUT I've been writing out ideas on paper and continuing to sketch out ideas and plots. Just can't use those characters.
A word of advice, friends are awesome to help you get through writers block or figure out how to pace a conversation better. But they're also real people and the outside world is controlled by you.
That's a great bit of advice!
For those of us who haven't read ''Super Six'', would you mind giving us a short summary on what it's about?
It's about a group of six friends who are in an accident at a comic book store. Within days of being released from the hospital they start to realize that they've been changed. Some are faster, others stronger, others can change what their body is like. Now they all have to deal with the fact that comic books have bled into reality, leaving them with powers, a mysterious benefactor and an AI.
A familiar concept, indeed, but I'm sure yours has its own unique twist to it. For those of you reading this interview, be sure to check out ''The Super Six''.
As of right now, are you happy with how the story is going? Are there any major changes you'd like to make now or in the future?
The main one is completely rewriting the characters. I want to create them into their own people with unique personalities instead of my friends. But the basic plot will stay the same. I'm going to start posting the rewrite soon on my second(soon to be main) account spqr_queen.
Smaller details are just going to be making the storyline more cohesive and to just calm down with the updates.
I guess I am pretty happy with where the story is going, it's just the other stuff is so overwhelming that I can't imagine sitting down and trying to push through it.
Ah, that does seem like a challenge. I know from experience that altering characters can be a very tedious and difficult thing.
What sub-genre or other genres would you classify your story in, and do you have a favorite genre?
I think I would also classify it as a Coming of Age and Adventure story. Though I will say my favorite genre to read is modern fantasy(so booms like Harry Potter or Percy Jackson). I just don't write them because I don't think I'm talented enough to steal any spotlight from the real talents like kmbell92.
Coming of Age stories pair very nicely with the superhero genre. Also, I love a good modern fantasy book myself. Anything written by Rick Riordan used to be my thing a few years ago.
Lastly, who is your favorite super character? It can be a hero, villain, anti-hero, etc.
I love a good female hero so... Wonder Woman(Diana Prince is a queen).
Wonder Woman is a great character! She symbolizes so much for so many people. Her movie was awesome too. Are you looking forward to seeing the second one?
Oh yeah! It's so amazing to see a movie that focuses on a strong woman, who comes from a community of strong woman. Gal Galdot is one of favorite actresses because of her role in Wonder Woman.
Gal Gadot is pretty great and so are the rest of the Amazons.
Thank you for answering our questions! Is there anything else you'd like to discuss before we finish up here?
Not really, but thank you so much for the interview!
Of course! You earned it :)
