Chained With Scales Of Change

Chapter 3 - Aubrey Arkaans

Vienna POV CH3

The sound of something cracking had awoken me from my sun time, I peeled one eye open and did a double take. Crawling out of the egg was a dragon, its scales were a sandy color, a short line of fin-like plates went from its head to its tail, its eyes were black, and a black diamond patterns went along his neck to his tail. I uncurled from the egg shell and stood up, I flicked megan awake with my tail and stood towering over the half my size dragonet. He looked up at me worried and started his attempt at speech, he then shut his mouth confused.

I lowered my neck to lean my head close to him, "Hello, do not be afraid". His black eyes stared at me confused as if asking how to talk, I calmly removed the shell from around his smaller body, I was surprised when I saw the scorpion barb at the end of his tail. "Focus your thoughts all on me" I commanded, I then heard a his supposed voice ask quietly,

"Can you hear me?". I nodded and allowed him him to continue talking, "What is going on?" his voice was louder this time.

"Scientists in a lab were kidnapping people and turning them into dragons, a few hours ago aliens came and started attacking. Me and my friend escaped with your egg, now tell me dragonet. What is your name?" I said tilting my head at him, he blinked his beady eyes and replied with,

"Aubrey Arkaans".

I blinked in surprise and straightened my neck, "Aubrey? Is that really you?" my mind voice held disbelief.

"Yes?" he tilted his head confused, "do I.. know you?". I blinked and a heart broken look crossed over my face, my scales changed from gold and silver to black and blue. I lifted my head a little higher and my scales changed to their normal color,

"Oh of course, I have forgotten to introduce myself" My voice was laced with pain but it quickly changed to embarrassment. "My name is Vienna McKarthy," I bowed my head while spreading my wings, "We are friends." I opened one eye to wink at him while my scales turned indigo, "But I'm sure you already knew that".

His look of bewilderment made me chuckle, I picked him in my mouth and made my way over to Meagan who sat nearby. I spread my wings and flew back to the banyan tree we made home, I landed gracefully on a large branch that was thick enough to prevent from falling off. I placed Aubrey down and turned towards megan, "He is probably hungry, watch him while I'm gone". She nodded and walked over to Aubrey who couldn't stand yet, I spread my wings and took off into the tree in search of fruit.

While searching I had found an array of fruit he could munch on to regain his strength, I had found blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries. I carried them as I flew through the trees, I soon saw Meagan laid down on the branch next to a sleepy Aubrey. I then camouflaged my scales to match the environment, I landed silently next Aubrey and placed the fruit next to him.

I sat down and watched as he ate the fruit slowly, he was definitely sleepy. I chuckled and allowed my scales change to their normal color, easily spooking him. He then shook his head and continued eating, when the fruit was gone he looked over at me with half lidded eyes and mindlinked me.

"Can you bring me to water? I feel dehydrated" I nodded, and picked him up in my jaws again before taking off to a nearby stream. He drank quite a bit before yawning again, and I flew him back. We had a surprise when we found a vacant hole big enough for all three of us to fit in, and with enough room to not be touching. I settled the furthest side from the hole, and curled around Aubrey who couldn't even lift his head at this point. Megan followed suit and curled on the other side of Aubrey. I wonder what the future will bring for us, hopefully not death....

        About three months later, Aubrey had since then grown into his final size and was a centimeter smaller than me. We would travel the forest for fruits, hide from predators, but mostly sun bathed. Surprisingly for me is that sunbathing seemed to make my scales brighter and It seemed to replenish my energy quite fast. A sudden twist was that a new race if aliens had came and had wiped out the white aliens, they spoke in a language apparently understood by us, they called themselves Kymari.

Their look differates from the white aliens by a lot, they have green skin, are heavily built, and are about ten feet tall. We also acquired some memories that we have no recollection of experiencing them, we call them 'scale memories', as they seemed to appear with our scaled forms. Our size was at least the size of a small wild cat compared to a full grown kymari, and the size of a great dane to a average height human.

Let's hope the Kymari don't find us, hidin' away in our lonely forest...
