Tarren's POV

Today's society is not what my grandmother grew up with, or my grandfather, or any of my ancestors.

People today do what I consider normal, but my grandfather told me of a time when there wasn't chips installed that allowed us to do whatever we want without leaving home. There weren't robots that do our shopping for us. There weren't teleportation systems, or mental cameras, or even, which I don't know much about, blade-ties.

But I might prefer living then rather than now because the Divined didn't exist then.

For as long as I remember, everyone told me that the Divined were a danger to the world. Who wouldn't be afraid? They are an evil that must be banished. They are filled with power no one else has. Apparently, they get their powers at a certain age because I used to know a girl named Lydia until her sixteenth birthday.

I won't deny it. I liked her. A lot. She is just barely older than me. Her birthday was two days ago. I turn sixteen tomorrow. On her birthday, she started acting really weird. The next day she disappeared. I went to her house and there was nothing. Just a pile of rubble. It makes me think she is Divined. But I don't think she's dead, just missing.

And one day, I plan to find her.
