Gotham City. Where the rich stay rich. And the poor stay poor. The money stays at the top so that corrupted city officials can have their lavish dinner parties and festivities. While the folks in the slums fight over the last available resources. Where crime lords infest the East End with drugs feeding off the weak and poor. Nobody takes better advantage than them - the crime syndicates of Gotham.Ever see a teen strung out on meth? No? Easy, take a ride over the East Gotham Bridge and into the East end. Its all here baby. Prostitution. Drugs. Crime on crime. Its a dumping ground for the less unfortunate. You're more likely to find the methadone clinic than you are a coffee shop. The rich wouldn't dare cross here. The finest citizens of Gotham City act as if we are non-existent. Their little delicate lives wouldn't last a second in these parts. But I admit, the mere thought of them lost in my neck of the woods makes me feel good. It feeds my muse. Cruel, I admit, but its a dog eat dog on these streets.
Lucky for me, a cat always lands on her feet.
My name is Selina Kyle. But Gotham City knows me by a different name.
I don't always wear the suit. I don't always have too is what I should say. I don't always have to wear the goggles and heel boots either. I don't always have to slip on the gloves that are equipped with retractable claws. And those babies can carve through a glass window like a knife cutting through butter.
No, sometimes, a simple wig, short skirt dress, and heels do just fine. Tonight I was not either Selina Kyle nor Catwoman. Tonight I was just Ada.
After a few months of the same old gigs, stealing from mob bosses and ripping off Gotham City most popular socialites. I had a potential lead on a big score. But I never gamble on the word potential. A girl like me, doesn't take those kind of risks. Not now, not ever. So it was up to, "Ada" to take the lead on this one.
The Golden Dragon, a Chinese restaurant on the corner of 5th and J Street located in China Town, had a underground club run by the Triads. A Chinese drug gang known for mostly importing weapons into the city. They had other business but none more successful than selling weapons to their highest paying customers, The Russians. I had managed to obtain info on man named Han Liu, a Chinese lawyer who was a little too cozy with Gotham City uptown bankers. Lucky for me, Han has an infatuation with blondes. Lucky for him, I so happen to a fine collection of wigs, blonde wigs to be exact.
Tonight, Selina would dawn one of her luscious blond wigs and presume the identity of a girl named Ada.
Selina, along with a few other blonde women had been picked by a recruiter downtown to be invited to an exclusive club. They were quickly rushed into a black SUV and driven behind the alley of the Golden Dragon. The women giggled and drank from champagne glasses while she watched and pretended to be amused. Offering a laugh and a smile here and there. The recruiter and security guard that escorted them paid no attention. As these girls were to be led directly to Han Liu and his merry band of greedy lawyers. Selina played the game. All she had to do was get as close to Han as she could. Entice him her smile and luscious lips. Show a little cleavage here and there. She wouldn't be as easy as all the other girls. No, she would make him work for it. By the time she was done with him, Han would be eating from her hands. She would serve him his cake but he wouldn't be enjoying the slice.
The underground club was filled with exotic dancers, neon lights, and the traditional dance music. The group of women were led straight to Han and his people. Han sat in the corner with his black slicked hair and a cigar in hand. The blonde in the cheetah skirt dress had managed to make her way next to him first. She came on too strong, she would be easy to get rid of.
Selina mingled with the other lawyers occasionally glancing at Han, she noticed his stare from the corner of her eye. She had is attention but not is full attention.
Eventually after a few drinks and the horrible bad jokes from the lawyers the girls made their way to the bathroom and Selina followed suit.
The women in the restroom adjusted their makeup and dresses. Laughed and giggled and chatted about which one of them had more money and connections. Which one could possibly take them could lavish them with an afternoon of endless drinks and access to some of the hottest spots in Gotham.
The blonde in the cheetah dress fixed her hair and adjusted herself. Selina had managed to catch her name in conversation. There was no time like the present and if she wanted to get Han's full attention this was the time but she had to act quick.
Selina made her way to the sink next to her.
"Lisa is it?" She asked.
Lisa looked over half drunk with a delighted grin.
"Why yes. I'm surprised you remembered it. I didn't think you would - given you didn't seem that interested in socializing with the rest of us gals at the bar downtown."
"forgive me. I tend to get caught up in the moment. But, I couldn't help but notice your interest in Mr. Liu."
Lisa gave Selina a devilish grin. "Now what makes you think that?"
"Well......you do know he's the real one with all the money don't you?" Selina happily returned the devilish grin back.
Lisa placed her tiny purse over the counter and leaned in and whispered, "Is that so?" she seemed intrigued by the idea of a potential jackpot. And the truth was, was that these girls hooked up with high profile guys for goal of luxury or blackmail. They had liked the idea of the being bathed in cash and overly expensive champagne. A night out with the Gotham's most luxury spenders.
"Oh honey. If you want to achieve anything tonight you might want to slip this in his drink."
Selina pulled a small bag from her bra. Which contained a small white tablet.
"You know...as insurance. Don't want your man catching the eye of the other girls."
Lisa laughed and her pushed Selina's hand away.
"I wont be needing that." Lisa looked at the mirror and tossed her thick blonde hair over her shoulders and said, "I've got all I need right here in front of me."
The other girls had beckoned Lisa over to head back to the table.
"Go ahead girls. Ill catch up in just a sec."
The other three girls made their way out of the bathroom.
"Such a shame." Selina said as she slipped the little bag back into her bra.
Lisa looked over at her one final time and said, "What's a shame?"
"I wanted to do this the easy way."
In a sudden rush, Selina grabbed hold of the back of Lisa's head and slammed it on the marble counter. Lisa was out cold and would not be waking up anytime soon. She quickly dragged Lisa into one of the bathroom stalls. She placed her gently next to the toilet. She wanted to ensure if she was to be found that it would look like she had too much to drink.
She looked down at Lisa.
"Like taking candy from a baby."
Selina quietly slipped out of the bathroom and made her way back to the table.
She was sure to have Han Liu full attention now.
