millie's father stands at his desk leaning over while his chest rises and falls in a fast motion. "sir i know-" joe says but soon gets interrupted by robert. "don't even speak" he spat harshly shaking his head in disbelief.
he knew he could never put the life of his daughter in the hands of a young adult like joe. he is shaken up about the fact that his millie is gone with who knows what kind of person.
"how could you let this happen?!" he yelled in agony of the loss. joe stands there with a loss of words. his mouth becomes dry as he looks for something, anything to say.
"in all do respect mr brown..you rarely payed attention to her in the first place" he shakily says regretting it immediately knowing how far roberts temper can go. he scoffs i'm disbelief looking at his employee. "do you realize who you are speaking to young man?" he rises from his leather desk chair glaring at joe.
he puts his hands up in surrender backing off the situation apologizing along with it looking to the floor feeling an uncomfortable tension between the two shaken up people.
"you are going to find my daughter. and you are to bring her back to me instantly, do you understand me?" robert rubs the bridge of his nose as she speaks under his breath but joe can hear him perfectly fine.
he nods his head not wanting to upset his boss any more then he already has. "effective immediately. you are dismissed" he sinks back in his chair as he hears the door quietly shut. robert knew what kind of trouble he could be getting into but he couldn't care any less. as long as his daughter is safe.
~~ finn and millie sit in the chairs of the hotel room that they have been renting for a couple days now pondering of what to do in this situation they have gotten themselves into.
"god what have we done.." millie exhales while putting her face in her hands. "we will figure it out..i've got money alright. w-we can get through this" he nervously taps his finger on his bony knee. the truth is, finn didn't know if they really could get through this.
they have loads of street gangs right on their tails and now they are exposed out into the world without any body guards. "how finn? how can we? we only brought one gun, which is only a hand gun may i add. we're basically being hunted down!" millie exclaims throwing her hands in the air out of frustration.
"we need to clear our heads" finn says standing up grabbing hoodies and sunglasses for the both of them. "the fuck are these for?" she questions hesitantly grabbing them and putting them down on her lap.
"we're grabbing something to eat. i saw a diner on the way here no one will notice us with this" he exhales nodding his head a little uncertain.
"yeah okay but we're gonna look like fucking idiots, it's eighty degrees outside" she rolls her eyes pointing to the outside that this covered by a window. "just do it will you" he pleads pointing to the items.
the pair finally arrived at a diner that has 'big boys burgers and shakes' in big neon lights plastered on the top of the roof. the bell rings above them making a man and a lady turn there heads from behind the counter.
"table or booth" the middle aged woman says in a monotone voice grabbing menus and silverware.
"booth would be nice" millie smiles politely following her as she scoots in sitting in front of the boy. "call me when you've decided" she walks away carelessly and slumps back onto the counter.
"god i'm fucking sweating" finn pants wiping his forehead looking around the retro decorated room. "your idea dude" millie says flipping through the menu not really paying attention. after about a couple minutes they both stack their menus together while finn waving his hand in the air at the waitress.
she pulls out her notepad and looks over at millie raising her brows. "i'll just have a veggie burger with fries and a water" she brings her lips into a slight smile watching as she scribbles it down. "and for you?" she points her pen towards him as he remembered what his order was.
"uh yeah i'll do a burger with lettuce and tomato with onion rings and a strawberry milkshake" he hesitates to hand her the menus as she keeps writing down and pausing.
"it'll be out shortly" she sluggishly walks away and into the kitchen. "she sure seems happy" millie sarcastically says making finn laugh playing with a napkin.
the silence thickens between them as the old music plays in the background and flickers of lights making it more awkward then it already was. "look millie i'm sorry. for everything" he apologetically explains looking at his feet in disappointment at his actions.
"what are you talking about?" she squints her eyes tilting her head. "i kidnapped you, took you away from your family. made you sit in that house for a month and a half with nothing to do, then out of nowhere i flee the house and drag you along with me i mean- god i'm such an asshole" he whimpers wiping his face while shaking his head.
millie sits there with her mouth agape looking at the boy who is falling apart in front of her. she isn't great with feelings or breakdowns with other people, she always finds herself in an uncomfortable state not knowing what to do or say.
"finn it's not your fault..you did me a favor to be honest with you" she jokingly says lifting the tension of their shoulders making him look back at her.
"how?" he asks sniffling his nose with his eyes half open. "my dad-he never really cared for me most of the time. i mean he did and i'm pretty sure he still does but not as much as a father is supposed to. he pretty much basically pushed me to the side and always put his work in front" millie frowns having the feeling of rejection coming back.
"he's a very determined man, he always put work first, not family. my siblings, they left a while ago. moved to other countries, got married, started a family. big dreams that they had. i'm happy for them, truly. but..they left me behind. pushed me away and out of there lives like everyone does" she laughs looking away as she rests her head in her hand.
"i feel like i ruined your life more though" finn shrugs scratching his neck looking out the window at the night sky. "trust me, you made it better" she reaches out and grabs his hand across the table making his cheeks run red.
they pull apart as the lady places their plates in front of them without a warning making finn roll his eyes looking off. millie grabs a fry and dips it in finns milkshake. he widens his eyes giving a disgusted look.
"what the hell?" he gags pulling his drink closer to him. "what? it's good!" she states while chewing up the fry dusting her hands off on her jeans. he shakes his head disagreeing. their little date is filled with laughter and jokes and some enjoyable silence trying to ease the moment up but behind all that was worry and regret.
