LILA

"What do you mean there's going to be a delay on the rescue?" I spat at the pilot.

Slight fear sparked in his eyes. For someone who was a mere five feet tall and weighed all of one hundred pounds, I sure could be intimidating if I wanted to.

"Ma'am, it's not my doing. The coast guard deemed it unsafe to travel out there at the moments because of a possible storm coming. Would you rather all of us die on the way to get them and have them out there for who knows how much longer?"

I huffed, knowing he was right. I stomped over to where Sebastian — Beck's best friend — stood with Beck's parents. Rory's parents were talking to some coast guard officers.

The tension between the two families was thick. Seb had explained to me yesterday that Rory and Beck's parents had a fall out just before freshman year, which in turn caused the rift in Beck and Rory's relationship.

"They're pushing back the rescue for two more days." I mumbled to Sebastian, who looked thoroughly confused in Beck's parents' conversation.

He breathed out a shaky breath. "Good god." He said, wiping his hand tiredly down his face. "I knew I shouldn't have left him on the island. I had a bad feeling about this whole trip. We should've just skipped and went on that spring break trip to Cancun with everyone else."

I wrapped my arms around his waist, and almost immediately his wrapped around mine, hugging me tightly to his chest.

"Seb—"

"I know, I know. It's not my fault. But I still feel guilty. And I know you do too."

Sighed and shut my eyes. Using his steady heartbeat to calm me down. "I hope they're okay."
