James got back to the common room ready for Marlene's party after a day out with his Marauders. He, Remus, and Sirius had found an interesting new room on the seventh floor that they had never seen before, but when they tried to add it to their map - their ink wouldn't work. This kept them occupied for almost an hour before a group of Slytherin fourth years walked by, and James began levitating dung bombs strategically into their bags so they didn't notice. He knew Lily wouldn't approve, but he had a rivalry to uphold. I'm not perfect, he shrugged as the boys walked up to the fat lady.

Before James had said half of the password, the Fat Lady interrupted him.

"I can't let you in looking like that, boy." She said glaring down at him.

James looked down at his clothing in surprise. He looked no different than any other day.

"This is a high class party, this is. You'll need to try a little harder!"

James looked bemusedly at Sirius. "Did anyone tell you we had to dress up?" Sirius shook his head and before he could ask Remus, the Fat Lady spoke again.

"You don't have to dress up, per se, but there are some lovely young women in their who really put an effort into their appearance and I won't have men like you undermining that."

"How are we supposed to change if we can't get into our dormitories?" Remus asked, laughing. "All our clothing is in there."

The Fat Lady rolled her eyes. "Are you a wizard  or what?"

The three boys quickly un-crinkled their shirts, unbuttoned a few buttons at the top, loosened their ties. smoothed their pants, and ruffled their hair. Immediately, the Fat Lady swung open and the boys froze gaping openly.

The common room was completely transformed. The ceiling was decorated with constellations and galaxies, the red curtains on the large windows glowed in the dark giving a sultry light to the huge room. House elves lined one wall serving butterbeer to laughing students. Some students were dancing to the upbeat music that was playing loudly from the walls themselves.

The boys walked in slowly, taking it all in. Then, suddenly, Sirius grinned and took off to the bar at the sight of three fifth or sixth year girl giggling together. James began to scan the room for Lily, and he found her in a matter of seconds. His mouth fell open.

Lily, Marlene, and Mary were all dancing on a slightly elevated stage in right corner of the room. Seventh years were cheering them on as they twirled and grinded on each other, laughing and singing along to the raucous music.

Lily looked breathtaking. She was wearing a tight, black, long sleeve, v neck top that tucked into a high-waisted dark green skirt that stopped a little above mid thigh. Her hair fell long over her shoulders except for one front strand on her right side that was bobby pinned to the side. Her face was natural except for her eyes which were even more strikingly green than usual with the addition of mascara and eyeliner.

James pushed his way through the dancing crowd until he reached the stage and looked up at her. His body seemed to come alive as he watched her dancing and he had the overwhelming urge to jump  up there with her, just to touch her. It took awhile for Lily to look down and see him and when she did, she smiled her glowing smile and slid down from the stage.

Lily wrapped her arms around James' neck and pulled him into a deep kiss. James couldn't help it, he wrapped one arm tightly around her back while the other one slid down to her behind. She walked him backwards into the wall, holding him there, and James felt as though everyone else had disappeared. As she pressed her body into his, kissing him fiercely, her hand wandered to the front of his pants, and James' pulled his head back.

"Woah, Lily, not fair." He whispered, but she ignored him, kissing his neck and James closed his eyes, completely lost in the moment.

She grinned against his neck, then slowly led him into the middle of the dancing crowd staying close to him. She shifted her arms up around his neck and swayed her hips to the music, not breaking the contact between them. James' brain had stopped functioning all together, all he could do was cling to her and hope this lasted forever.

After four songs of this complete bliss, Lily leaned up to his ear and whispered, "Let's go explore, huh? Wander the corridors a bit?" When he looked down at her she winked and tugged at his arm.

He grinned at her and let her lead him out into the corridor. As they began to walk quietly down the hall, hiding their laughter and whispers behind their hands James had an idea.

"Wait here," he told her as they reached the gargoyle into the Head dorm.

James quickly ran into the dorm and grabbed his invisibility cloak from under his bed, and ran back out. Lily was leaning against the wall across from the door, biting her lip and looking at him in way that made his entire body seem to buzz. Her smile widened as he crossed the hall to her, and when he dropped the cloak to lift her into the air and press her into the wall, she laughed and brought her lips strongly down to his.

Balancing her with one arm and his body his other hand slid up her shirt, bringing it of its neatly tucked previous position. He gently slid his nails down her back and felt her shiver against him, her arms tightening around his neck. However they were cut short as a loud noise brought them out of their moment.

"Avery! Be quiet!" Hissed a gruff voice. "You'll wake up the whole castle!"

James stiffened and Lily pushed him away in order to stand and draw her wand, looking suspiciously down the hall.

"Here," whispered James. "Get under here." He held open the invisibility cloak and she slid under it. Lily was tall but James taller to the point where the cloak still covered them both completely.

Together they quietly crept towards the voices, hardly breathing and both with one hand on the cloak and their other on their wands. When they turned the corner, Lily let out a sigh of sadness.
