Chapter 2

Jake started immersing into a dream. He was in a place of complete nothingness. Then behind him he heard a maniacal laughter behind him. Jake jumped and fell. He turned around to see the mysterious boy. His laughter ceased and proceed to say, “ You can’t stop it. It can’t be stopped.” He started to form what looked like a dark, black sphere in his hand. “You can try, but you will fail.” He then threw the sphere at Jake and Jake screamed. Then he saw black nothingness.

Jake woke up in a panic. He was breathing heavily. The fear of the boy was now even greater. Many questions whirled inside Jake’s head. Was that real? What’s his name? But one huge question came to mind. What was that black sphere he threw at him?

Just then his phone buzzed. He jumped and then looked at the new text message he received. It was Ben. The text read, “Meet me at my house it’s important. And hurry.”

Jake got up and threw on his blue hoodie and ran over to Ben’s house. Ben was on the porch waiting. “Took you long enough. Come on inside I gotta show you something.” Jake was confused. “What is it?” He said walking through the door. Ben grinned. “ The cloud that surrounded us in the hall today, it’s definitely man-made. Some kind of dark energy. Whoever made it was genius because its like a whole new power to add to the other four.”

After Jake saw the little vile with the dark energy his heart started to race. The image from his dream flashed into his mind. They’re the same matter. That boy created the mysterious new power that was now referred to as darkness. Jake spoke up. “ We should report this, Ben.” He pulled out the cop’s card that he gave him earlier. “Maybe they can find out who it is. And then this can be put to rest.” Ben stood up fast and got offended. He slapped the card out of Jake’s hand. “ Are you crazy? We could get in big trouble. They’ll think we did it!” Jake retaliated. “ They already saw the camera tapes! We are completely innocent!” Ben shook his head. “I’m not risking it. We can’t get in trouble. I’m gonna continue to research.” Ben had a tiny lab set in his room. He said it was for school but Jake was sure he just enjoyed science a lot.

It was eight at night and Jake headed home. As he was walking more blackness surrounded him, followed by another maniacal cackle, just like in his dream. A chill went up his spine. Jake started to run, but the darkness followed him. He somehow found his house within the dark confines. He ran inside and locked all the doors and windows. His parents were out on a business trip so they left Jake at home. Through the darkness Jake could see out the window, was little black dark monsters with glowing red eyes. they were almost jewel like. Jake ran and grabbed his sword. He knew that he had to be prepared. And he was. He stood at the door, took a deep breath. He then opened the door and unsheathed his blade. Jake charged at the closest demon to him and swung his sword. The monster vanished with a whoosh. He went after the next one. And the next, each one leaving the earth with one slash of his steel. They were all gone. The darkness faded. Jake knew though, that it wasn’t over.

He saw Ben running toward him out of breath. “ What in hell’s name was that?” He screamed. Jake replied calmly, “ That darkness we saw earlier. And I’m sure that this isn’t our last encounter with it.” Ben looked at him confused. “What are you saying?” “What I’m saying is that this isn’t over. There’s going to be more. They’re going to come after me for some reason. So I’m going to have to be on the lookout for them. And I will have to fight them. That police officer was right. This guy, who ever he is, is after a greater end than just a few deaths.” Ben looked at him like he was crazy. “ Jake you have no powers! You can’t do this!” Jake shouted back. “ I have to! I just have to. Powers or not I have to stop him. This isn’t right. He needS to be put in his place.” Ben sighed. “ But who is it?”  Jake looked up at the sky. “I have a feeling I know who it is.”
