Jake didn’t sleep that night. He hasn’t slept lately. With the events that have been happening to him, how could he? He was afraid someone will attack him in the night. But that night felt weird. He started to think about his past.
It was the third and all the students had an assembly in the gym. Everyone was split into groups according to grade. Jake and Ben sat next to each other like usual. “What’s this about?” “I don’t know.” The principle spoke up. “ Boys and girls,” She said. “It’s time you learn a truth about your body. You all have something unique about you. You each have one of four powers. There’s ground, water, ice, and fire. It’s time to see what power you have. You will all be examined by a special person who can see what power you have. He will then group everyone together by power to help you practice using your power." Just then a man who had hair down to the bottom of his back walked in. He was pale and had fingerless gloves on. Jake couldn’t help but fall in love with those fingerless gloves. At eight years of course he was in lovw with a lot of things. The man started walking past all the students, telling them what power they have. He got to Jake’s group and Ben was first. He told him has water. " The water flows through your blood like a river. It’s fast and powerful. Use it wisely. I see so much potential in you." He then walked over to Jake and he looked into his aura. He saw what was inside him. He saw something surprising. His eyes widen as he looked at Jake's aura more. He called the principle over and whispered something in her ear. The principle walked over to Jake. " Dear, I’m sorry. You dont have a power. This is a rare case. You will have to sit out while the others learn their powers." Jake was upset. He wasn’t special at all like the others. He was alone on the bleachers. After the lesson he was sent to the nurse and they called Jake's parents in. They were sad. Their only son, a freak to most kids. His dad had fire while his mother had ice. The were upset for Jake. They went over to him and hugged him tightly, and they took Jake home early. As he was walking to the car he realized he left his books in homeroom. He went back to get them and ran into the man who examined everyone. He looked deep into Jake’s eyes and then proceeded to take the gloves off. He gave them to Jake and then whispered in his ear, " Never lose these. You may not have powers now, but soon you will. The lightning will run through your veins, just like me." He then began to walk away and then faded away into the distance.
Jake still can remember the man’s voice. At eight years old he never understood what the man meant, but now he does. Jake sat up in his bed knowing he wouldn’t be able to sleep. He threw on his Assassin’s outfit. He made sure to grab his weapons this time. He remembers what happened last time he went for a run this late at night. Flashbacks from that night popped into his head. He closed his eyes tight, to clear these memories he was having. He didn’t want to have to relive that night, so having his weapons may just help him. He went climbing back to the same roof as the night he first fought Cliff. He sat on the edge of the building and tried to remember the events leading up to now. He questioned himself on why he even did any of this, a question he couldn’t even answer. Why he was the who was blessed with lightning, why he decided to become the assassin, everything. His mind became cluttered and he couldn’t take it. He began to run again. He wanted to, he needed to. He needed to empty his head and be able to focus on what’s in front of him now, not the past. As he was running, Gabby saw him. As soon as she did, she chased after him trying to get his attention in any way possible. She yelled at him, threw things at him but he wouldn’t stop. He finally got to the a very tall building and climbed it. He sat on the edge and pulled down the bandana. He was breathing heavily. He couldn’t believe he could run that fast. Maybe it was a perk to the lightning. He started having more thoughts again. He was about to run again until someone thankfully interrupted them. "Hey I never got to say thank you for helping out with the battle. You were the main reason we won." Jake panicked and pulled up his bandana. heknew he had to also deepen his voice or change it or else Gabby would recognize it. "It’s nothing. Glad I could help. I want that prick dead more than anyone." "Well, I know this is asking for a lot, but would you want to join the rebellion? If you do, I can tell you the address to where we meet." Jake wanted this. He is going to be the one to end Savin. " I’m in." She smiled and told him the address. " Ok, our meetings start around eight at night, so be there. I’m going to make you second-in-command. This is a war we are fighting. So this rebellion is an army, and this army is glad to have you on our side." With that Jake nodded and Gabby left. Jake went home and tried to sleep the best he could, but it seemed almost impossible to him. So many things raced through his head like a storm. The thoughts of past, present, and possible future were on his mind most. Questions like when the war will end, or when will he meet his next enemy, or even worse, when would he go against Savin? So many questions, but not many answers. Soon he was finally able to fall asleep, to the thought of Gabby.
Jake opened his eyes to a completely black room. No furniture, no light, no anything, just complete nothingness. He then heard the rattling of chains, the clanking they made slapping against one another. He looked behind him to see Gabby, Ben, and a couple of people he didn’t know, chained to each other, being forced to walk by two of the darkness. He then heard a cackle behind him that shot chills up his spine. It was Savin, and he was laughing to the easy victory he just accomplished. He then pointed to Jake. “ You”re next!” And then started to chase him, leaving nothing but a trail of darkness behind himself. Jake knew he had to run. He turned around and found he was in school hallway. He started to run down it, jumping and avoiding obstacles in the hall. He ran as fast as he could. He found his sword laying across a locker. He had to get it. He reached for it, grabbed it and unsheathed it. He transferred lightning to the sword and swung it at the far away Savin, sending waves of blue electricity to him, with no effect. Savin was getting too close and Jake was getting too tired, but he kept pushing himself until finally he got to a dead end, but up on the wall, too high for him to reach, there was his hoodie. and with it, two metal gauntlets with razor sharp clawed nails at the ends of the fingers, a pair of metal boots with a clear circle on each of the heels of them, and then a face piece the looked like his bandana piece almost. He then looked behind him to see savin right there, with darkness enclosing the both of them. “ I am meant to rule this earth, and all of you will become my slaves!” And with that jake shot up from his bed. He then realized he was only dreaming, though he couldn’t shake the feeling that it was not just a mere nightmare. It had to be a sign, a symbol, or a future prediction of some sort, but he tried shaking that feeling off as he saw he slept in to two that day, the longest he slept for in a while. He got up and then heard a knock on the door. He looked out of the window to see two nicely dressed men outside. Jake thought it might be another assassination attempt. He grabbed a big knife and put that hand behind his back as he opened the door. “ May I help you?” They looked remorseful. “ Are you Jake Kadle?” This intrigued Jake’s curiosity. “ I am. What’s the problem?” We have gotten word that your parents are dead. They were killed in the massacre that occurred during the siege of the city. I’m so terribly sorry.” Jake’s heart sank. The only blood family he had alive at the time that he knows of are now gone. He was alone. No parents. The only family he had was Ben. The men left as Jake was tearing up. He got dressed and went straight to Ben’s house. He knocked on the door. Ben held the same expression of sadness on his face that Jake did. “ Are your’s gone too?” Jake nodded his head slowly. Ben went up and hugged him. Just then he pulled away and stuck two needles into Jake’s arms. “ Ow what the hell was that?” He yelled in pain. “ An experiment I’m working on. It’s a surprise for you. In order for you to have it though that liquid has to sit in your blood for a bit.” “ You better not get me killed.” “ I wont, but soon, you will be thanking me.” With that he left Ben’s house and made his way back to his house to put on his Assassin’s suit and get ready for his first meeting with the rebellion.
