'Mr. Iero your husbands down in the ER.'

That phone call changed my day for the worse. I was just out grocery shopping which meant I had to leave my husband at home... alone.

You see he has a lung tumor, he's been taking chemo for the past two years and the tumor has shrunken and he's been doing better. He assured me it was okay for him to stay home and that he'd be okay he is not okay.

I'm standing in his room watching him in a drug induced sleep.

'Mr. Iero?'

I see the doctor step in and I run over to him.

'Yeah?'

'We don't exactly know what's wrong it could be that the treatment has stopped responding but we're not sure. We're going to keep him here for a week and monitor how the tumor is effected by the chemo.'

'So it's a half and half chance of him... making it?' I asked shaking.

He nodded and sighed.

'I'll leave you two alone.'

I walked back over to the hospital bed and sat down into the seat next to it.

I grabbed his pale hand and kissed it.

'Frankie?'

I looked up and saw Gerard staring back at me.

'Gee.'

I smiled lightly.

He smiled back.

'How do you feel?' I ask

'Okay. My heads throbbing but I'm ok. I'm sorry I worried you.'

'You don't have to be sorry I'm just glad your ok.'

I leant up and kissed his cheek, continuing to hold his hand.

'I love you Frankie.'

He smiled weakly.

'I love you too.'

___

It's the end of the week and I stayed with Gerard the whole time. The doctors have been monitoring his tumor all week like they said they would do but waited to tell us what was going on until they had everything sorted out.

Gerard declared he was "ok" but he's still as pale as he was when I first arrived and he's been coughing uncontrollably.

I'm in the elevator heading up to the fourth floor with two cups of coffee in my hand.

I reach the fourth floor and step out to see doctors rushing down the corridor Gerard's room is in. My eyes widen and I speed walk down the hall.

The doctors are rushing into Gerard's room I try to run in but they won't let me. They make me sit in one of the seats in the hall and I sit there, terrified.

After an agonizing twenty minutes the doctor steps out.

'Is he okay?'

'He had trouble breathing we had to put him on oxygen. About the treatment the scans are showing nothing so we'll have to keep him longer.'

Tears welled up in my eyes and I nodded. The doctor let me in and I rushed to Gerard to see him hooked up to oxygen. Struggling to keep his eyes open.

'Frank?' He wheezed.

'Shhh don't talk are you okay?'

He shook his head. I grabbed his hand and squeezed it tightly. He gave mine a weak squeeze.

'Gerard I just want you to know it ok to let go. If it hurts it's ok. It's ok to go.' I said tears spilling from my eyes.

He weakly reached his hand up and wiped away my tears.

'I don't want... to go. I'm not... going anywhere Frankie." he wheezed.

I just continued to cry and hold his hand tight.

'I love you Gerard."

'I love you Frank, I'm not going... anywhere.'

And then his eyes slowly shut and he fell asleep.
