As the train rolled down the tracks on the way to Hogwarts, Rose wondered what her second year would be like.
Should I join the Quidditch team? No, that requires socializing. No thanks. She thought as she absentmindedly petted her brown and white ferret Aroma.
Nobody was in the compartment with her because she scared away the first years with her mean look, and the older years knew better than to screw around with a girl who has had the best transfiguration grades in first year history, because she could easily turn them into a cup or a teapot without breaking a sweat.
She looked out the window. Trees and hills passed by when the trolley woman came by her compartment.
Without looking up, Rose asked for some candy cauldrons and licorice wands, handing her a small bag of sickles. She chewed on a licorice wand while she took her actual wand out of her trunk.
She twirled the wand in her hands and looked down at it. It was made of polished white wood with a metallic green painted carving of a snake coiled around it. When she had gotten the wand last year, she really hoped she would be in Slytherin so her wand wouldn't be out of place.
When something tugged on the rim of her Slytherin robes, she finally looked directly at something. It was Aroma, just wanting to play.
"Not now Aroma. Sorry. We'll play when we get to the common room." She cooed at the ferret, gently putting her back into her travel cage.
A chocolate frog with a sticky note on it landed in her compartment. She looked up, and a boy in Ravenclaw robes was waving at her from the compartment across the walkway.
She read the note.
"Why are you sitting alone?" It read.
"I don't have any friends, but I don't really care." She wrote back.
The chocolate frog was soon tossed back with another sticky note.
"Well, I'm Saf, can I sit with you?"
"Sure, why not?"
Saf stepped into the compartment and sat across from Rose, almost immediately looking down at Aroma.
"You have a ferret?" Saf asked.
Rose nodded. "Her name is Aroma because her smell isn't very bad."
"She's pretty. Also, I never got your name." Saf absentmindedly drummed his fingers on the seat next to him.
"Rose Lyre, second-year Slytherin and heir to the Lyre family." She shook Saf's hand.
"Saf Silverback, second-year Ravenclaw. Heir to the Silverback family. People call me the Ravenpuff because I act like a Hufflepuff."
"People nicknamed me the Quiet Song because I hardly talk to anyone and my last name is Lyre, like the instrument."
"I like that nickname. It's pretty."
"Cool."
"Can I rant for a second?" Saf asked.
"Sure."
"I hate steretotypes, because even though I'm a Ravenclaw I like to have a lot of friends, and that doesn't make me a Hufflepuff. Like, I get how people don't expect a Ravenclaw to be so friendly but they don't have to be rude about it."
Geez, does this boy ever shut up? Rose thought, hardly listening to Saf's ranting.
Saf stared at her. "Apparently not."
"'Apparently not' what?" Rose looked up at the dirty blonde haired boy.
"'Apparently' I don't shut up." Saf looked down.
"I never said that."
"But you thought it."
"Oh, you're a Legilimens. You can read minds."
"Yeah, my dad taught me how. But don't worry about being embarrased, most people think that."
"Okay."
"You should learn Occlumency."
"Mhm."
The train rolled to a stop. Everybody unloaded their things, the House Elves on their own boats taking the second years and up their things to take to their common rooms.

Rose collapsed onto her bed, thankful that there was nobody else sharing a room with her. There were an uneven number of Slytherin girls, causing one to be by herself. And that person was Rose.
Unpacking everything, she changed into pajamas and laid down in her bed. Almost half a minute after, though, a third year Slytherin named Alexia disturbed her peace.
"Get out here, Silent. We're playing a muggle game called Monopoly with the first years." Alexia put a hand on her hip.
"No." Rose rolled to the side, her back facing Alexia.
"Have fun by yourself then, Never-Speaks. Must be lonely here with no friends to help your depressed self."
Rose sighed and took out her wand. "Sorry not sorry. Swinum." She waved her wand and shot a blast at Alexia, turning her into a pig.
Alexia squealed angrily and ran out the door into the common room. Rose smiled smugly as a mountain of shrieks erupted from the common room.
She knew she would get in trouble for this, but she needed to teach Alexia a lesson: Don't mess with the girl who has the highest Transfiguration grades ever.
A short while later, Professor Burnham and Alexia's best friend Alice came into her dorm. Alice smirked and crossed her arms.
"Good evening Professor." Rose said, sitting up.
"Good evening Miss Lyre. As you probably know, you've broken a rule. Please meet me in my classroom. Thank you for telling me, Miss Smith."
"Your welcome, Professor." Alice and Professor Burnham left the dorm.
Rose pulled on her robes and left the dormitories. After a few minutes of walking, Rose arrived in Professor Burnham's classroom: the Transfiguration classroom.
Thanks Alice. You brought the professor of the class I excel in. "Hello Professor. You wanted to see me?"
"Yes, Miss Lyre. Though I am a bit proud you managed to preform the pig morph spell, I have to do my duties as a professor." Professor Burnham cleared her throat.
"What's my punishment, Professor?"
"Before I give you your punishment, I'd like to ask you to do something for me."
"Yes ma'am?"
"Can you turn this teapot into a pig and back?"
"Of course ma'am."
"Swinum!" The teapot changed into a pig, then back into a teapot.
"Excellent, Miss Lyre." Professor Burnham nodded approvingly before clearing her throat again. "You will be given detention with three other students and do work for my class tomorrow afternoon."
"Yes, Professor. I will see you tomorrow during class?"
"Of course. Have a good night, Miss Lyre."
Holy crap, I didn't realize how long this chapter was. So much longer than any other chapter I've EVER written
