Rayne's POV

The doorbell ringing pulled me out the lovely dream I was having. I cracked my eyes open, shielding them from the sunlight seeping into the room through the blinds.

Silence.

Did I just imagine the doorbell ringing?

I brushed it off and snuggled back into the covers. Just as I was about to fall back to sleep, the doorbell rang again, confirming it wasn't my imagination, followed by banging.

“Who the hell is here this early in the damn morning?!” I groaned, dragging myself out of bed.

The banging and doorbell ringing became more persistent as I made my way down the stairs and up to the front door.

“I'm coming!” I shouted towards the door. “How is Charli sleeping through this shit?” I mumbled to myself as I pulled the door open and squinted into the light.

“SURPRISE!!!!” I heard a guy yell before my eyes could adjust.

“Michael?!?!” I shouted, all trace of sleep disappearing.

“In the flesh, love.” He grinned at me.

“Oh my God!!” I squealed, throwing myself around him in hug. “I wasn't expecting you home this soon!”

While Michael and I constantly flirt back and forth, I am actually in love with the man. The ONLY person that knows this truth, is Charli. I use flirting as a cover. That, and because it's fun to see his reactions.

“That's the whole point of a surprise.” He laughed. “But there's also more.”

“Hey Rayne!” Four other voices chorused as they walked past us into the house.

“Holy shit! You're all here?!” I exclaimed.

Michael and I followed them inside. I went around and hugged Luke, Matt, Franccesca and Kyle before speaking again.

“Are you guys hungry? I can make breakfast. And coffee.” I grinned, already making my way towards the kitchen.

“Fuck yes!” They yelled, making me laugh.

“Hey Rayne? Where's Charli?” Matt asked.

“Upstairs. Still sleeping. I don't know how.” I shook my head. “Why don't you go wake her up for breakfast?” I smirked.

“With pleasure.” He grinned evilly.

“Oh lord! I hope she doesn't kick his ass too bad.” I shook my head again, anticipating the shouting about to ensue.

Charli's POV

'Damn whoever is at the fucking door.' I thought angrily to myself as their persistent knocks and doorbell ringing woke me up.

Instead of getting up, I pulled the covers up over my head and drifted back to sleep, knowing Rayne would get the door.

However, not too much longer, I was rudely awoken AGAIN! But this time, it was by someone jumping on my bed.

“Rayne! Knock it off!” I growled, obviously not a morning person.

“Not Rayne!” The person sang.

I jumped up and shoved them off the bed, tackling them to the ground with them laughing the whole time.

Wait a minute. I recognize that laugh.

I brushed my hair out of my face to get a look at the person underneath me.

“Matt?!” I exclaimed, letting him sit up. “What are you doing here?!”

“Came to surprise you.” He smiled as I wrapped my arms around him tightly.

“I can't believe you're here.” I whispered, my voice cracking. “I've missed you!”

“I've missed you, too.” He whispered, hugging me back just as tightly.

There's something you should probably understand. Ever since Matt joined KUZA, we've been best friends. He's flown to PA to visit me and I've flown out to visit him in Vegas a few times over the past year. We talk all the time, about anything and everything. Except my feelings for him....

I noticed something about this hug. It's lasted a lot longer than usual. And there's something different about Matt's body language. Something's changed and I'm not sure what it is.

We pulled out of the hug and smiled at each other, glad to be together again. Then we both immediately started blushing as we realized that I was still straddling his lap. Oops!

I stood up and pulled him up with me.

“Come on. Rayne is cooking breakfast and coffee should be done by now.”

Matt pulled me out of my room and down the stairs, still not releasing my hand.

As soon as we entered the kitchen, Matt dropped my hand, leaving me craving his touch again. Almost immediately, there was a steaming mug of coffee under my nose.

“For you, my dear. Made just the way you like. Peppermint mocha creamer and lots of sugar.” Rayne gave me a knowing smile. “How'd you like your wake up call?”

“God, I love you!” I said, taking a sip of my coffee, savoring the taste. “And I almost kicked his ass.”

Everyone laughed and greeted me with hugs before taking a seat at the table.

“But, of course, I can never stay mad at my best friend.” I grinned, planting a kiss on Matt's cheek.

Was he...? No. He couldn't be blushing. Why would he?

“I thought I was your best friend?!” Rayne pouted, interrupting my thoughts.

“You're more like my sister. Twin even.” I replied, blowing her a kiss.

“Did someone say twins?!” Luke looked up from his phone excitedly.

“Of course that's what you'd hear!” Franccesca laughed.

“What?” Luke asked innocently.

We just laughed at him and dug into the amazing breakfast that Rayne had prepared. There was some idle chit chat while we ate. We talked about how the See You In Hell tour went and Rayne and Mike were flirting with each other the whole time.

Everyone knew that had liked each other. We were just waiting for them to finally admit it to themselves and get together already.

All through breakfast, I would find Matt looking at me. Every time I would catch him, he would blush and look away.

'What's going on with him?' I thought to myself.

“Charli!” Luke shouted, tearing me out of my thoughts again.

“Huh?” I raised my eyebrows at him.

“We're moving this party to the living room. There's something Mike wants to talk about.”

I nodded my head and stood up from the table. I made myself another cup of coffee then met everyone in the living room. Matt saved me a seat on the couch next to him as Mike remained standing. He actually looked nervous.

“What's going on?” Rayne asked, also picking up on his nervousness.

Mike took a deep breath, playing with the ring on his index finger.

“Well, while we were on tour, we realized how much of a disadvantage it is for me to live here while everyone else is on the west coast.” Mike began slowly. So... I kinda... got an apartment in Vegas. To be closer to the rest of the band.” He finished quietly.

I knew Rayne's heart just shattered. Her best friend and the man she loves was moving to the other side of the fucking country! Sure enough, one look at her and I could see the pain written all over her face.

He's leaving and I will be the one to pick up the pieces.
