Rayne's POV

It's been a week or so since we have moved to Vegas. I am doing my thing, trying to find a job.

I've been a tad stressed out about Michael and myself. I know we have been friends for years and always made it quite obvious that we had a thing for each other. But now, I'm beginning to think that's all it was, just a crush or something. Because our relationship just doesn't seem to be working out. Maybe it would be better if we just stayed friends.

I mean, he loves to go out and party. Granted, I like to go hang out with friends too. But most of the time, he seems to forget that he has a girlfriend. While we're hanging out, he will flirt with girls right in front of me and laugh at me when I get upset about it.

Yes, I find Michael attractive. Yes, I love being around him and spending time with him. But I'm just not sure I like being his “girlfriend”. In fact, if I take into consideration the way he has been behaving, I'm not sure he even likes having a girlfriend.

I woke up at about eight in the morning and Michael wasn't home. He is never up this early, so he must not have come home last night.

I decided to give him a chance to explain himself, so I sat on the couch, job hunting and watching TV while I waited.

At nine, I heard the front door open. I stood up and met a completely disheveled Michael Kuza at the door.

“Michael, where have you been?” I asked softly.

“Relax babe. I went drinking with Luke last night and ended up passing out on his couch.” He mumbled, leaning in to give me a kiss, his breath still smelling of alcohol.

When I turned my head away so he would kiss my cheek instead, I noticed the scratch marks down his arms. Taking a closer look at him, I noticed bite marks and hickies all over his neck.

“Oh, so you were at Luke's? Okay. Why don't you go shower and I'll make something to eat.” I said, trying to keep my cool.

“Are you okay?” He asked.

“Yeah, just stressed out about finding a job.”

“Okay. I'll be right back.”

As soon as I heard the shower turn on, I grabbed my phone and dialed Luke's number.

“Hello?” Luke answered on the second ring, sounding wide awake.

“Luke, um, hi. It's Rayne.”

“Yes, I know who it is. What's wrong?” He asked.

I looked behind me, making sure Michael was still out of the room.

“Uh, well, um... I was just wondering what you were doing?” I made up some excuse, not sure if I should ask him if Michael was really with him or not.

“Rayne, really? We've been friends for a few years now. Don't you think I know when something is wrong? You didn't call me because you wanted to know what I was doing. Stop beating around the bush and tell me what's up.”

“Okay, fine, sorry. I just...um...well...” I took in a deep breath and felt tears welling up in my eyes as I continued to speak. “What did you do last night? Don't ask me why, just tell me the truth.” I blurted out.

“Well, I sat at home, drank some Jack and read a book until I got tired enough to hit the hay. Same as I normally do.”

I closed my eyes, feeling the tears roll down my cheeks and tried to hide the fact that I was crying.

“I knew he lied.” I muttered to myself.

“Who lied? What's going on?” Luke questioned me again, breaking me from my thoughts.
