I let out a breath and laugh nervously. I was so eager to get here and now I feel like I'm about to explode from nerves alone. I avoid my gaze from his and look around the living room. It's very...manly. But not in a bad way.
The room was decorated in dark greys and wood with hints of white here and there. I loved how it was all in one room. The living area, dining area and kitchen all came together as one in this open space. It was beautiful and so cosy. It was very clean and I wondered if he'd cleaned just for me or if he was naturally a clean freak.
"You want a drink?" Marcus interrupts my thoughts and I look back at him to see he's still smirking at me. He makes his way over to the kitchen and opens the fridge. "Soft drink or alcoholic drink?"
"I'm driving, so best make it a soft drink." I give a soft smile and he nods and pours two glasses of Pepsi into tumblers. I watch as he moves around the kitchen and it's the first time I notice what he's wearing. Grey sweats and a tight, black T-shirt. I know what this man looks like in just his boxers and I blush profusely at the thought. He was so muscular but not overbearing, more defined and clearly healthy. I bet he could go all night if he had the right partner.
"What's the blush for?" He's stopped right in front of me. Shit! What do I say? 'Oh I was actually imagining you walking around your kitchen in just your boxers!'
"Nothing!" I squeak but regret answering. My voice tells on me and he sees right through me. Marcus chuckles but doesn't embarrass me any further, thank god! He just gestures to the sofa and I take a seat on the edge in the centre corner of the L shape sofa, mesmerised by the fireplace hidden behind a sheet of glass. "That's beautiful. Did you chose it yourself?" I'm utterly transfixed by the amount I like this place. It's so quaint and easy on the eyes. Relaxing and calming but completely nerve wracking at the same time. Although I think that's more to do with who I was with and who this place belongs to.
"Yeah, I picked the stuff and colours but then my mother saw most of the work through because I was away for most of the renovation. I just circled some stuff I liked in a catalogue and drew some plans up for what I would like and she helped with the actuality of it all." He smiled warmly at the thought of his mother and I was glad he was still close with her. I loved his mum and had a great relationship with her but she wasn't easy to keep stuff from. It might be difficult to see her now and not let on about something possibly happening with me and her eldest son.
"She's a wonderful woman. I can't remember the last time I saw her before this morning. It was a nice surprise." I smiled and laughed at the memory of her words. She was a wise woman, there was no doubt about it.
Marcus rolled his eyes at my kind words toward Jane and grabbed the tv remotes. He found his way to his Netflix account and then threw the remote on my lap. "Pick something and I'll put the popcorn in the microwave. No chick flicks Fliss!" He was serious now and I smiled even harder at how stern his comment was. Fine, no chick flicks. I scrolled through and decided on a good thriller. Something to do with a haunted house.
He returns to the sofa and hands me the bowl of popcorn. It's butter flavour, my favourite. Maybe he does know me better than I thought. "You want to watch a series huh? There's ten episodes. Think we can get through them all? They're all an hour long?"
"I haven't got work for another three and a half weeks so, I'm good. Up to you though." I shrug and act as nonchalantly as possible. "Question is, do you have enough snacks to get me through ten hours?" That gets a laugh out of him. He thinks I'm joking. I only watch tv with snacks. Snacks get me through and it is a necessity, not optional.
"Oh you're serious?" He shakes his head at my straight face and stroked my cheek with his finger. "There's plenty of food here Fliss. You can stay for as long as you want. I even have a very comfortable bed if you wanted to stay." He leans back and winks before turning his head to the screen and pressing play. I just sit there stunned. Was I supposed to answer that?
