"I knew he wouldn't be able to pull it off," I muttered, as grabbed my phone and opened my e-mails, "I'm never wrong when it comes to judging criminal capability."
"Sol," Cléo said softly, "Who is it?" she peered over my shoulder to see what I was typing.
"I have many, many, many clients," I muttered as I typed into the search bar.
"Emphasis on many," Bart added, crossing his arms.
"But, I never forget a face-"
"I do. I can't even remember how Rachel looks. Hey, Sol? Remember Rach? Our helper at home? I miss home," Bart muttered to himself, slowly drifting off. I rolled my eyes, scrolling through e-mails, searching for one in particular. "I miss home..." he repeated, looking at the chandelier sparkling on the ceiling.
"Aha!" I exclaimed when I found the one I had been looking for.
Dear PC,
I hope this e-mail finds you in good health.
"This is Steve McQueen? He's so... polite," Cléo mused, peering over my shoulder, as we both skimmed over the e-mail.
I received your contact via my girlfriend. I need your help. I need to get rid of a lawyer, by the name of Jason Veleno. Poison would be the preferred medium.
I would like to schedule a meeting, preferably at my residence, to discuss payment and procedure. I am perfectly capable of committing the felony myself. I have an extensive understanding of and I have committed various crimes. It pains me to say that murder is an experience that I am not all too familiar with. I need your consultancy.
The reason for this crime, is that if I am convicted by this lawyer, my history with the wrong side of the law will become apparent, and I would receive multiple life sentences.
My address is 23 Pluto Avenue Saffron Walden England. Give me a date, and I shall clear my schedule to suit yours.
Regards,
Magnus Hoffburg
"Care to explain?" Cléo raised an eyebrow once I had finished reading the e-mail; her voice tinged with surprise.
"I had a client earlier this year who asked me to aid him in killing a lawyer named Jason Veleno. I told him to use Clostridium Botulinum. But, my client must have been too scared to be caught by the police. If he got caught, he would face multiple life sentences, which was the original reason for him wanting to kill Jason Veleno himself.
'Killing someone, that must have been way too real for him. He must have panicked and decided that he would leave it up to someone else to do. A proper professional." Bart waved a hand at himself as I explained, "So, he blackmailed, or should I say, chose me. But, to make it less suspicious or maybe in the hopes of making me forget him, Magnus Hoffburg made the whole situation chaotic and anarchistic, distracting me by making me complete highly improbable tasks, simultaneously testing my capabilities. The finale is to do that which he could not. Murder Jason Veleno."
"He underestimated you and his plan failed," Cléo said, grinning.
"Why wouldn't he just hire someone to do the murder for him?" Bart asked.
I laughed, "He did! Me."
"And I thought I was excessive," Cléo muttered.
"Do you think the address he gave you is his actual house?" Bart asked.
"No, that would be way too easy. But, we do know one thing for sure."
"What is that?" Cléo asked.
