"Oomph! Why am I so unlucky today?" I complain trying to get off of Zayne who was looking at me like he had never seen me before. "Oh princess, I'd say you are the luckiest person today. You get to be on top of all this," he says sitting up gesturing down at his body. He's so cocky i want to throw up. I don't really want him to speak. I am the one who got her food stolen, right? Even the dumbest person knows to not steal my food!
"Why did you steal my food?" I punch his chest. Fudge! That hurt! "Ow, princess," that's right, don't steal my food. i brag mentally. "You punch like a girl," he says getting up and wipes the dust off his clothes, or at least tries to. "Why are you so annoying? I don't know why you left but the bigger wonder is why you came back! Stay out of my way, please. Go pick on people of your class!" I say a little too loud and he looks a little bit taken aback but am annoyed and tired of seeing him already. I don't even wait for him to reply.
I ignore all the looks am getting from the crowd that was already gathered to watch and go straight to the chemistry lab to prepare the practical we are to carry out this afternoon. I have missed my chemistry partner if am being honest. His name is Jake but I just call him J. He has the most adorable brown eyes, chestnut hair and this goofy smile that lifts my mood every time. He is in the swimming and chess teams. No, chess team spells nerd, but we can call him a cool nerd. He gets along with everyone and doesn't mind what anyone says. He speaks his mind all the time and gives the best advice.
Someone comes in just as I grab the volumetric flasks but I don't really look who it was. It could be just another student trying to be ahead of others. My mind goes back to Zayne for some reason. He looked different I admit. Everything Nessa had said before. He had these broad shoulders and the fitting shirt he had worn showed the muscle he had developed through the years. He looked the definition of hot. Oh, stop it already! It has not even been a day and here I am ready to blow up. When we were little, he and Adrian used to scare off every boy who approached me claiming that mom had said boys had cooties. I always went back home to rage out to daddy but mom would tell me to grow up! Oh no! Mom. Why did I have to think about her right now? Certainly, today couldn't be any longer... cue the facepalm
"Hey sweetie, are you okay?" A lady asks me and all emotions rush back to me. How could I forget? She was starting today! "Ms. Booker?" I call out running to her. She hugs me tight and sniffs. "It's really you, dear. I had really missed you, Paigey!" She sniffs again and I can't help but get teary. We let each other go and she cups my face smiling. I had missed everything about her. The little things she always did for us. Like how she would smile at me every time i was nervous, how she'd always know when anyone needed a hug or how she would soothe my back when I cried. Which was a lot of times. She'd always listen to my complaints about Zayne then she'd laugh it off and tell me to not take it seriously. We hugged again and agreed to catch up later.
I felt way better. She was the closest thing I had to a mother before they moved and I felt really awful when they had to move. Now, I can't wait to see her again for three good reasons. One, she was my dad's crush, giggles. Two, I wouldn't feel lonely being around guys anymore and lastly, her being in this lab, at this time, meant that she was my chemistry teacher.
I can't wait to hug dad for that. I thought as I got our book and sat down just as other students came in.
"Hey, girl! Long-time no see. How was your holiday? Did you meet new boys? Do you have a new crush? You have such an awesome tan, by the way! Where did you go? You know I met a new guy. He's really hot and has huge pecks and I swear I can drool all over him all day," the imitated girl voice continued. By now I was laughing hard holding my stomach and gasping for breath. "Seriously J, that's not what we talk about after a vacation," I tell him as he hugs me and takes his seat. "But being close right? On a scale of 1-10, I'd say am a 7," he says giving me the goofiest smile ever. "You were close and I did miss you," I say pushing the practical book between us. He smiles again. "Well, I was serious about the tan too. Hopefully the boy?" he gives me the side-eye that he always does when trying to convince me to talk to guys. I shook my head no but remembered about Zayne so I told him about it through the practical.
We walked out after the class together. "Honestly G, what were you going to do after chasing him? Beat the guy? We both know you can't hurt a fly," he snickered. "But I did punch him." That stopped his laugh, "but he said I punch like a girl," I add and we both laugh loudly making some students in the hallways look at us weirdly. We part our ways after he says hi to Nessa and we head home. Finally, sigh.
