Moments like these are serious and tragic. Horrible, life changing things could happen in seconds. You might lose your home, parents, friends.
Thankfully, it's very, very, rare to experience these things in this part of the world. Or... use to be, anyway.
Ever since this great war began, dangers have been showing up left and right. This had to come up as the most dangerous time of my whole, entire, life.
Sure, I risked my life last night just to show my parents I was worth it. But if that was me just a few years ago, It wouldn't cross my mind at all!
Jedrek, however, would have been much more brave. It was actually a whole lot better when he lived with us!
He was always the bravery and brawn. My parents were always so proud of him. I was just the younger son, who just helped a little bit more behind the scenes. I wasn't brave, I wasn't very strong, either. But I didn't have to be, Jedrek already was our hero.
I still remember some of our moments with him like it was yesterday.
He would always give me lessons on how to plant crops when my dad's back was hurting. It's so strange how you can remember the little things way back when, even if they aren't that important!
For instance, I remember one day when I was with Jedrick, planting and watering crops as always.
"Jedrick, why do we have to water plants?" I asked him when I was about six, and he was ten.
"Well, you see little bro, they need to drink."
"Why?"
"Because their alive, like you and me!"
"Really?" I asked, "They don't look alive."
Jedrick chuckled to himself, "Well you see, Somethings in this world can have a lot more life than you think! They can surprise you in all kinds of ways, too!"
His words still echoed in my ears
I remembered that at that age he was just a page, so he was starting to leave to train and become a knight.
It's too late for me to become a knight, anyway. This is how it was to become a knight:
When you're around seven years old, you and your family has to swear an oath that you will and serve and protect the kingdom, then you start to leave home, (But you do still live there.) and start serving an experienced knight and learn about being one too.
Then, when you're around my my age (thirteen through fifteen) You become a squire, that's when you leave home and then you start training for all kinds of fighting and, I guess, start to pretend to be a knight.
Then, when you're around your twenties, you are officially a knight that can go out on missions and stuff like that.
Jedrick, right now I'm sure, is eighteen. He just became a knight if we heard true, so that's pretty early! But I expected that, Even if he was very young to be an actual knight and that we weren't the most terribly wealthy, he deserved to be.
I still remember his knighting, my parents were so proud of him.
Ever since he left, my parents seemed lost without him. He was, of course, their best child. So ever since he left I've been trying to make up for him, be the new big brother.
I actually thought getting rid of that creature last night would've actually make my parents proud. Oh, how wrong was I.
"Why didn't you come and get us!?" "What if it was something dangerous?!" "You could've gotten hurt, or worse, killed!!" Well at least I actually SAW the dragon, but I was way too late.
But thankfully, There were already people on guard there and warned everybody when they saw it. So they attacked the beast and it escaped with minor damage. So it's morning now and we had to go to the Tarn village. Dad's back was feeling worse so mom convinced him to take me to the village today, saying I could help. So the carriage arrived that morning and we loaded it up with all of the wool, milk, and other things we got from winter. Then we boarded it and the coachman rode us away.
I always loved going on trips, no matter to the village, or kingdom, (Even though we rarely go there.) I love it. It's slow, sure, but you get to see all kinds of cool things!
The kingdom of Norzu was not only (supposed to be) safe, it also had many awesome things to look at!
As we traveled I got to see all of the different trees and plants across the landscape, with a beautiful sky and huge mountains in the background!
On our way there I saw a rabbit munch on a flower, a mother deer and her fawn prance into a field of tall grass, and a flock of birds flying way above us with, what looked like some kind of medium sized bird/dog creature, chasing them.
"You know what that is?" My dad asked me when he saw my marveled expression at it. "No, what?" I asked. "They call those chamroshes" He told me.
Oh great, another crazy creature name I have to remember. "They are a cousin of the griffin and said to be sent down by the heavens to protect the land they live in and plant seeds for it, too." My dad explained to me.
He wasn't a crazy talker, but he loved telling me all about magical creatures and animals galore. I guess it's because he used to deal with them everyday, so he got to know at least a million of them.
My dad is the reason I've learned a lot about history, fighting, and of course creatures.
This beast in particular was pretty cool looking, especially since it's feathers looked kind of like fur!
I then just remembered, Feathers...
I put the feather from the creature in my pocket this morning just incase. I wonder if dad knows what it came from. I thought to myself.
"Hey dad." I said pulling out the feather, "Look at this, I got it last night from that creature. I thought it was a wolf or something, but it left this, so I think it might be some sort of bird? Do you think you know what it might be from?"
Dad turned his attention to me. He wasn't very excited to the memory I put back into his brain, but he took the feather out of my hand, anyway.
"Why, it looks like a peacock feather! Smaller, but a very beautiful one, yes!" He said, rubbing his chin. "Well yeah, but, I don't think peacocks have teeth and try to eat chickens." I told him.
"Well," Dad scratched his head in memory, "I'm sure if I try to remember I'll come up with a few creatures that have feathers like that." He assured me, "But right now we have a job to do."
