Hello! Thank you for your interest in Improve Your Writing. This is a guide on the common mistakes I often see as a developmental (content) editor and how to fix them. It's worth noting that I mainly work with fiction manuscripts, usually sci-fi, fantasy, horror, mysteries, thrillers, and YA. The majority of this guide may not apply to non-fiction pieces and essays.

Another thing worth noting: I'm not a copyeditor, which means I do not work with the grammar side of editing. For those who've read my short Writing and Grammar guide, I had a copyeditor look at it to ensure everything is correct.

If you are unsure of the different types of editors and stages of editing, you can find the "Things Your Editor Wishes You Knew" guide on the "Resources" page of Write Plan Editing's site (writeplanediting.com). If you are a writer looking to pursue publishing, the guide mentions a little about that as well. If the guide doesn't answer all of your questions, please feel free to message me.

As for this Improve Your Writing guide, my plan is to keep it ongoing. I have quite a few topics I'd like to start with. I'll continue to update it as more topics come to mind. If there's a topic I haven't mentioned that you'd like to see, please leave a comment below.
