Knightley Dai-Lee(Imagined similarly to Brian H Whittaker, above)

my heart bleeds yearning for something greater

and yet i hold on to hope that somehow the winding road of life will lead me to where i'm going

Knight

It was abrupt.

My eyes open in an instant. I fling myself to sit up to look around at the environment that I was in. I have no idea where I am, everything is so distorted, hazy, and dark. I can't seem to focus on anything because there is nothing to focus on. Did I get some crazy concussion or something? I swear that I was fine just a couple of minutes ago.

Suddenly this mysterious haze became pitch black. At this point, I was able to regain consciousness and full mobility of my body as I stood up. I began to look around in a confused daze, how can everything be so blurry and then all of a sudden it is black. Am I dreaming? Is this some sort of living nightmare that I am in again?

I began to walk around the area. Each step that I took emitted a harsh ominous sound that echoed throughout.  After walking for who knows how long I noticed a figure far ahead of me. It stood perfectly still in a way that almost seemed menacing.

"Hello?"

No response. I rose my voice, "Hello?!"

This is insane. I took a deep breath and began to walk closer to it. The more and more that I got closer I began to notice more traits. It was a girl with her head down, she looked familiar. Her sandy hair drooped over her face so I couldn't make out who it was. She was in a simple white dress that had small straps and extended to her mid-thigh.

By the time that I reached her I was practically faced to face. "Are you okay?" I asked. She slowly rose her head without her hair moving at all. She was now practically looking at me, staring into my soul.

I slowly reached out to her, "Are you o-"

I wanted to ask if she was okay, but instead, she grabbed my arm and proceeded to hold me in a chokehold with her other. I couldn't breathe, she was strong for someone as small as she is, she was able to even lift me off the ground. I could feel her pull in tighter and each time she did I gasped for more air.

I coughed "Why...why are you doing this"

She released me. I fell to my knees trying to regain my consciousness. She was choking me hard enough that I was starting to faint. As I steadied my breathing I looked up to her, this time her face was revealed.

Her eyes were white with blood dripping down her clear pale skin. It was terrifying. Before I had time to react she grabbed the top of my scalp and clenched tight, I could feel the bone in my skull slowly cracking due to her enormous strength. I screamed in pain.

A distorted slow deep voice came from her mouth "Eighteen years, Knightley Dai-Lee."

I struggled to form words. How does she know my name? Is she going to kill me? Who is she and why is she so strong?

"It is time for the creatures of the night to take back what's theirs. No longer shall they have to sit and watch as your people ravage them to near extinction." She rose her free arm and out slid out a knife from what seemed like thin air. "Congratulations. Nightride begins with you."

Before I can speak up, she slashes the blade of the knife against my throat as she lets go of her grasp on my head. There was nothing but blood dripping from my neck and the last breaths of air escaped. The girl disappeared and I was left there. Dying, with this pool of blood beside me. I took my breath as I closed my eyes, what did I do to deserve this.
