Chicken sliced and seasoned, carrot and tomato soup, buttered bread and chalices were set on the table.
It smelled so good.
But I'm not hungry. Tonight I'm going to ask my parents. And I'm extremely terrified.
There's regal woman in an ornate red dress accented with diamonds with her hair in a French twist, sitting next to a esteemed man with a fur robe and a silver and gold crown laying against his soft brown curls. King Grayson and Queen Arabella.
Mom and Dad.
I try picking up my glass and almost drop it from shaking so much. I've never asked them to leave before. I'm going to have a heart attack from my nervousness.
"Aveline, honey, are you alright?" My mother looks over at me.
My water is spilling on the table.
"Yes," I say shakily, "Why...y...wouldn't I be?"
"Well your chicken is floating on you plate, dear."
"Oh." I laugh slightly.
My dad looks over to me, "So we know your birthday is coming up really soon,"
"About that..."
"And your mother and I know you've been wanting it a long time,"
I give them a surprise look, "Yes..?"
"We'll let me just show you." My father brings in a servant carrying a small box.
I pull the ribbon's strings and open the box. My heart sinks.
It's a bracelet.
My parents look so happy. "Don't you love it honey?" My mother says, "It was custom made for you, see the crystals and the rubies? They are your birthstone, you know."
My father takes my hand and puts the bracelet on my wrist.
"There, look how beautiful it looks on you!"
My mother and him give a joyful laugh.
"Father..? Mother...? Can I ask you a question?"
They suddenly look confused.
"Of course, what is it?"
I stiffen up, "Well....I...would....um maybe....maybe I could...well maybe I would be able to....ummm....go outside?"
My fathers face doesn't change. "Could you repeat that?"
I swallow some water. "I know my birthday is coming up, and I was wondering if I could....go outside for a change."
My parents look worried.
"Before you say no, I just want to say that I've never been outside before and I think since I will be turning eighteen pretty soon, I am mature enough to handle myself."
My parents exchange glances.
"Alright."
"But dad, you don't understand I.....Wait, what did you say?"
"I said alright. You have shown us that you are ready and you obviously have the enthusiasm to do so. You can go outside. The guards will be at the Grand Ballroom door when you are ready to leave."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. "Really?" I was so happy I started dancing around the Dining Hall. I went over and I kissed my mother and my father on the cheek. "Thank you, thank you so much! I love you both!"
I skipped out of the room before they could say anything else.
I can't believe it, this day couldn't get any better.
I'll just have to wait till tomorrow.
Tomorrow.
I couldn't wait.
