New York, 1837
"Florence, baby, would you please come back here?" I followed her quick pace with caution, my eyes darting from side to side as we raced deeper into the glum woods. Trees were growing thicker as we traveled further and I made sure to not once let her out of my sight.
"Would you stop worrying for a minute George darling." She turned back towards me and placed a passionate kiss to my lips, I pulled back and took in her beauty. The way night skies seemed to dance around her chocolate eyes, often looking to flash brightly like stars peeping out, showing off their light to those who stood enviously only wishing they could be as luminous.
Her soft lips looked dark peach in the dimness of the world and a small smile tugged on the ends of them, like a puppet master was controlling strings on each end. Her hair was curled delicately into strong spirals that descended down her chest and back, the colour just as dark as her eyes. I was in awe of her if I had to admit, but yet she had chosen me to love and no one else.
"I know you want to have fun, but there could be dangerous things out here and the last thing I want is for you hurt Florence," I spoke quietly, now being extremely cautious of what was lingering behind the trees.
"Like what? Wolves? Bears?" Florence ran out of my grip and twirled around in circles with her arms stretched wide. It was something she did quite often, she would shout at the top of her lungs, declaring how free she was, each moment was adorable and I could've watched forever.
"He's right Florence sweetie." A dark figure emerged from behind an old, worn down oak tree and stopped directly in front of us.
"Edward you gave me quite a fright then." Florence placed her fingers up to her lips and chuckled silently, her innocence of something so pure it was hard to look at her in any other way except with delicacy.
"What are you doing out here anyway?" I cut in between Florence and my older brother, causing him to take another step.
"I can't have my baby brother and his love out here in the eyes of danger. Tell me Georgey, do you realize what time it is?" Just as he took a step forward, a loud bell rang out through the air. I counted 12 clangs, indicating it was midnight.
"It's midnight Edward." He took another step,
"And do you realize what today is?" A devilish grin was etched into his face and he looked up with dark eyes, a lot darker than his usual green ones. I was the only one with blue eyes in my family, my fathers were green as were my mothers, to which my siblings carried the gene too.
That's when I realized what his words really meant. It was our younger brothers birthday, the day he turned eighteen and it was also the day he became like Edward and I.
"Where is he?" My fists clenched and I felt a familiar hatred rise towards my older brother. He didn't answer; he only licked his lips and looked towards Florence.
"Florence, would you like to play a game?" She clapped her hands excitedly,
"Oh I would love to! What game?" It was then that I saw a large metal blade appear through her body, her once cream dress was now stained crimson and a grimace distorted her round face.
"No!" I ran towards her but Edward pulled me back with great force, causing me to stumble backwards.
A clawed hand snaked around Florence's neck and my younger brother's smug face appeared from behind her. Florence looked at me with an expression I'd never seen before, all the light had disappeared from her eyes and her lips trembled as blood spurted down her chin.
"William, please don't." Although he acted oblivious I knew my younger brother had heard my plead, but his expression showed no remorse for what he had planned to do.
I watched in horror as the knife twisted in her stomach. The claws that were placed on her neck were now moving and I stared as my he dragged his index finger across her flesh, allowing the skin to tear open and blood to run down her chest.
He pulled the metal out of her and she collapsed forward on to the ground, any life she had was now completely gone from her body and she lay limp.
I looked at my younger brother in disgust as he pulled a white handkerchief from his pocket and glided it along the blade, cleaning all the red from it.
His eyes met mine and an evil smile spread across his lips before he spoke words I could not bare to listen to,
"Well I was going to suggest hide and seek."
