The Small Ray of Sun

Kori felt numb inside the hole that had swallowed her was to big her to climb out and the rocks of hope she made for herself had fallen with her. She could only feel the soft texture of Ghost's fur under her hand as the rest of the world spiraled around her. Eventually the task or blinking became to much for her body to do, she closed her eyes her lids feeling like they were made of lead. Kori slipped into a dark cold sleep, Kori was spinning aimlessly in the dark void of her mind. No hope came to her in the sleep just more waves of dread. Kori felt as if she had been washed into cold water and everything was sinking around her and she had to watch. The pressure and dread, worry, and fear. The emotions rose higher and higher over her until a sudden knock shocked Kori awake. Kori rubbed her eyes for a moment her body still pulsing with electrifying adrenaline. For a small second Kori thought she was home, but the blur of soft birch wood and light grey and blue decor reminded her it was the slaughter house her kidnappers but her in. It wasn't a dream.... I'm still here.....Kori felt as if her limbs where steel as the same thudding came again this time accompanied by a small smooth voice, "hello? Are you in there?" Kori turned her steel-plated neck to look at the door. It was only a foot step away, a heartbeat from her hands, but why did she feel as if this choice could be her end? Kori began running through the faces of the group she'd meet that night. Each face seemed so blurry to her and her increasing anxiety bared down hard on her chest it was like breathing was a task out of her reach. As her mind raced the voice sounded again the noise booming her in head, "It's ok, I'm not here to hurt you please just open the door. Just a little?" Kori felt almost as if the voice had smoothed over her fear as she zoned out as her hand reached for the door. Her eyes were glazed as her hand grabbed the handle and opening the door just a tiny bit. Kori stifled her heavy breathing as she saw the shadow of the woman and a ray of sunlight filtered through the negative space. The woman was sitting outside the door and Kori had handed right behind the one part of the door she didn't open. "I just wanna talk." The young woman sounded and Kori didn't know know why but she felt as if she good trust her, her gut told her to just relax but everything else screamed in rebellion. Kori edged closer and practically whimpered out a response, "O-ok" The woman sounded a smile and her voice threw up a few pitches higher making her sound younger, "I'm Uni-Chan! The snake brats maid!" Kori felt like a frightened dog at the sudden cheery voice that seemed to flood the air. "I'm Kori..." Kori felt as if she had to add something to her response because Uni-Chan did the same, "The person you kidnapped." Uni-Chan let out a disbelieving sound, "Sorry Nanashima made it seem that way, we are actually here to sorta 'protect' you" By the way the shadow change Kori could tell she and shifted in a more comfortable posture; leaning on the door from her back facing Kori. Kori finally gained the nerve to face her and she scooted closer to into the eyes of Uni-Chan. When Kori was able to see her face Uni-Chan was looking at the sky, she tilted her head toward Kori her bright purple eyes pulsing as a Carmel brown strip of hair swaying around her face. "Don't worry I don't bite," she said gently but she had a small smirk on her face. Kori gave a reluctant smile in return and Uni-Chan chirped, "Hey since your gonna be here for a while how about we be friends? There's not really a lot of girls around." Kori felt a small ray of sun piece into her heart; breaking the open a void. "Sure, I'd like that,"she said sheepishly. "I figure you would," Uni-Chan pipped sweetly. Kori looked to the kitchen and noticed how there was a few things on the table and the cracked pantry door which seemed to hold some items. While look she zoned out thinking about food and how hungry she was; Kori hardly noticed Ghost was looming over her and licking Uni-Chan's face. She made muffled giggles and Kori soon shot up and pushed Ghost's massive head away. Ghost wagged his tail as Kori gently scolded him, "What have a told you about licking people's faces?" Ghost gave an aloof look and turned around sitting behind a one couch that faced the kitchen. Kori got up and rounded to the kitchen. "Hungry?," she asked looked down at the spot were Uni-Chan was sitting, "heck yeah!" Kori smiled and open a stainless steel fridge she looked down and saw a small pre-made sandwich that had big bold letters, "EAT" Kori looked at the sandwich for a moment noticing the freshly made bread and the lettuce splitting out from the edges. Kori noticed how hungry she was but she grabbed the sandwich and unwrapped it. Then, she teared of an paper towel, as Kori did this she couldn't help but noticed the pretty layout out of this so called 'slaughterhouse' There was the back door and a living room which had a light blue rug, and sitting on top was a long coffee table made from a slightly darker wood from the floors which was birch. There was a sofa in front of a picture on the opposite side of the coffee table, the sofa's back faced the kitchen and the other two framed the side all facing towards walls. Kori saw that the side sofas had a hallway behind them; one had a table, a few pictures and a mirror against one wall. That one was closest to the front door and a small closet right on a turned wall. The outer wall was made from traditional paper and wood so some light filtered in but it still was a muted bright. When Kori turned around in the kitchen facing away; she saw a row of lower cabinets then a pantry and the the opposite side a oven. Kori took a moment to admire the house again before walked over to Uni-Chan and handed her the sandwich. She gave a quick thumbs up before forcefully shoving a bite of it into her mouth. Kori gave a startled look but when let out a marrow of laughter. She sat down her feet tucked beneath her. Kori watched Uni-Chan eat. Uni-Chan stared blankly at the outside patio, Kori stared at Uni-Chan noticing how young she looked, with vibrant purple eyes light brown hair tighter up in a short ponytail with some hair falling on her face. Uni-Chan was wearing a white Yukata with a red string around her waste. On the back was some sort of red lettering and she also carried a black wooden fan with her which she had laid down next to her. Kori admired how pretty she was and also felt grateful for her new friend. The peaceful meeting came to a sudden halt when Kori heard Ghost letting out a low aggressive growl. Kori's head snapped to the woods outside her house which had a sudden violent shaking in a part of the trees; almost a direct line to the back door. Kori felt her heart pump louder and louder till the thudding was all she could here. Uni-Chan looked toward the moving trees with a curious expression. Kori felt her hands start to quiver as her heartbeat seemed to merge with loud thundering food steps. Soon a shadowy person appeared from the tree line. Kori could only see a flash of what is was before Uni-Chan shouted, "Oh! Hey Alli—" But before she could finish Kori's mind finally came to it's senses and quickly slammed the door shut Ghost and her now enclosed in the house.  Uni-Chan made a small gasp before sounding a little mournful, "You scared here away Allistar" The man Uni-Chan called Allistar made a gruff sound then talked in a low growl, "Why are YOU eating the sandwich I made?" Uni-Chan made a small squeak, "Don't look at me! Kori gave it too me, she probably thought is was poisoned" Kori heard Allistar's foot steps come up the stairs leading to the outside patio and then another judgmental sound, "If I was going to poison her I would of marked it look far more appetizing." Kori felt her blood run cold as a small 'eek' like sound came out of her lips. Allistar's shadow loomed over the paper door. Kori could hear Uni-Chan make a disgusted sound and stomping her foot at Allistar for his comment. He only hmphed at her then growled again, "It's fine. I'm not gonna kill ya" His voice sounded a bit quietly as if comment about poisoning her was meant to be a funny joke but turned south. Kori felt her heart rate slow down as Ghost turned away from the door and sat down like the whole situation didn't matter. Kori looked at the door and narrowed her eyes determinedly, "hold on a second." Her voice was barely a whisper as she got up her feet making light tapping sounds as she walked over to a far sided wall and grabbed a beautiful purple and white orchid out of the vase sitting on the far right side. Kori tapped over again to the door and bent down to where she saw a small opening under the door. She held her breath while she slid the flower under the door, then Kori scooted back as she saw a hand pick up and flower. Allistar had another gruff sound before turning to Uni-Chan, "Sekki wants you, I figured you'd be here playing mental warfare on the girl." Uni-Chan made a funky sound, "Quilty is charged. Let's go then" Allistar said silent as the walked of the patio and Uni-Chan hopped up and shouted, "Bye bye Kori see ya round!" Kori smiled to herself as they walked of into the distance, even though she was still frighted she now made a feeling she was gonna be ok.

Uni-Chan yawned as she walked through the forest; she'd already finished with Sekki's needs so she decided to visit Allistar. She made a hard left and she soon arrive at a beige house with black burnt art and purple swirls on wine growing on the house. She walked up and opened the door without much worry. The house made light green accents and black furniture. Allistar was sitting near a low birch table with books stacked on top of books. Allistar was looking at the flower Kori had gave him and was slowly drying out the flower. "Wow" Uni-Chan smirked. Allistar looked at her and gave her stern look, "Tell no one." Uni-Chan smiled, "I guess you've decided to 'adopt' her?" Allistar sighed, "yeah" Uni-Chan crossed her arms in the door way, "I think she's gonna fit in just fine"
