I sat down on the couch, thinking about what Jayden said to me.
"Don't you see that I'm in a lot of pain too?"
That was when I realized I was a terrible brother to him too. When he said it, at first I was mad. Just because he was in a lot of pain too didn't mean that he can hurt someone like that.
But then I slowly started understanding. When he said it, he wasn't talking about Evanna at all.
No one ever asked him if he was okay.
No one ever asked him if he was going through a hard time.
Everyone just ignored him.
When he said it, I could see how hurt and broken he was. Yes, it wasn't right for him to hurt her, but he's going through a tough time, and no one was there for him.
I remember how upset we were when he couldn't remember us. We ignored him and treated him like shit, and now we regret that so much.
I'm trying to change. I know what I did wrong. I'm trying my best to become someone better.
"Hey bro," Andrew said, sitting next to me. "You okay?"
"We have to be better to Jayden," I told him.
He nodded. "Yeah... we're complete assholes."
"Definitely," I agreed.
Andrew was literally my best friend. I loved him to death. I didn't know how I would live without him. We were always together, and we had a special relationship.
"Where's Evanna?" I asked.
"I think upstairs," Andrew replied. "Let's go check."
We both went upstairs to Evanna's room. My heart dropped when I could hear her soft cries coming from the other side. She was so small and cute, it broke my heart when she cried.
We opened the door to see her on her bed, hugging her legs to her chest. She looked up with her tear-streaked face. Pain filled her eyes as she looked away, wiping her tears.
Andrew sat next to her on the bed and tried comforting her while I took her phone. I scoffed as I read the messages.
"You've gotta be kidding me," I muttered, tossing the phone to Andrew who easily caught it.
Evanna cried more. "Why does everyone hate me?"
"We don't hate you," I tried comforting.
"W-What," Andrew muttered in disbelief.
"What?" I asked.
Andrew's eyes were filled with anger as he looked at Evanna. "Matthew's kiss was a bet?"
Evanna's eyes widened. "W-Wait!"
I took her phone from Andrew and stared at the messages from a guy named, 'Sammy.'
Andrew must have switched to a different chat... because what I saw were a bunch of kids bullying Evanna by saying some shitty stuff.
