Introduction

Think Like a Child

Imagine a world through the eyes of a child—a world where every day is a playground filled with joy and adventure, and friendships are made with laughter and games. For parents, it's not just about playing together or treating them to their favorite ice cream. It's about finding meaningful ways to connect and nurture a bond that lasts a lifetime. As an aspiring mom, I've always dreamed of creating that special connection with my future children through something as simple yet profound as bedtime stories.

Bedtime stories have a magical way of shaping young minds. They're not just tales to spark excitement or to help little ones drift off to sleep quickly. They're opportunities to teach life lessons, instill values, and guide them into becoming the wonderful individuals we hope they will be.

Growing up, my own father was my storyteller. In my mother's absence, he filled our nights with enchanting tales of Snow White, The Three Little Pigs, and Cinderella. But there was one story that stood out—a story born from the very actions I displayed at home. You see, I was an energetic child who, during meals, turned eating into a playful mess. I would pile my plate high with rice, fish, and veggies, only to scatter it on the table and drop it on the floor. Playing was far more exciting than eating, and I often left my food behind, unaware of the waste I was causing.

My father would patiently remind me, "Do you know how many Filipino children are starving on the streets? Some don't even have three meals a day and must scavenge for leftovers in garbage dumps. And here you are, wasting food that is abundantly given to you." His words were sincere, a constant reminder of the reality beyond our home.

One night, craving tales of fairies and witches, I asked my father for my favorite stories. Instead, he shared a tale that left an indelible mark on me. It was a story about a magical land and the importance of valuing even the simplest things in life.

Inspired by that story, I decided to create my own. I call it "White Mountains." The title reflects a fundamental part of Filipino culture—the staple food, rice, served on a plate. This story, inspired by my beloved father, is not just a tale; it's a reflection of a lesson learned and a message I'm proud to share with children today.

So, are you ready for an adventure? Turn the page, and let me take you to a place you've never heard of—a world where lessons are learned, and every grain of rice counts.
