"I told them we needed you alive and you know what they did? Stab you. Damn idiots." Kangdae cursed as he applied pressure to Jisung's bleeding wound. The boy hissed in pain, his eyes squeezing shut.
Kangdae heard him and looked up from his bandaging, "Good morning, sleeping beauty." Jisung glanced around the room he was in, not recognizing the refined bedsheets and gorgeous wood vanity. He had grown so accustomed to the uncomfortable floor of the stone room that the bed beneath him felt like soft heaven. He couldn't help but unconsciously snuggle deeper into the silk fabric, but immediately regretted it as a tsunami of pain rushed through his side.
"Careful, you'll make it worse," Kangdae warned as he wrapped a white gauze bandage around the stab wound.
"Yeah, no kidding," Jisung rasped out, adding a necessary eyeroll. "Why did you do that to me?"
Kangdae let out a sigh but didn't reply.
"Kangdae, why?"
"I'll do what I have to to keep my job," was all he said before averting his guilty gaze.
"Wait, where's Chenle?" Jisung asked as he noticed the lost presence of the bubbly boy.
"Still downstairs. You have to permission to stay up here, so-"
"Take me to him," Jisung demanded. A soft bed and bright room would never outshine Chenle's presence, and he'd rather be locked away with him than enjoying something so nice without him.
"Jisung, you have everything up here, why?" Kangdae looked at him in disbelief as he pointed out the obvious benefits of staying where Kangdae called "upstairs".
"You said you'd do anything to keep your job. Well, I'll do anything to keep Chenle safe." Kangdae nodded in defeat and stood from the chair Jisung had just noticed he was sitting on.
"Alright, Prince Charming, try to stand." Kangdae crossed his arms and gestured to the floor, "Go on," he urged, knowing full well Jisung wouldn't be able to do it. Jisung shook his sore limbs and sat up, his head spinning and side aching. Tears welled in his eyes as he put pressure on the side of his injury, but he did his best to stand. Chenle's dirt covered face flashed through his mind before he crashed back onto the fluffy mattress.
"Woah, I did not expect that," Kangdae muttered as he stared at Jisung in awe.
"Yes, you did. You knew I was gonna fail."
"Jisung, you stood up for a solid minute. That's not a fail."
Jisung raised his eyebrows, his double chin forming as he made eye contact with Kangdae, both equally surprised. "I did?"
