Indigos P.O.V

"Blessed be God, father of our lord Jesus Christ. Praise be to him for the gift of our brother Otis, for his span of years, for his abundance of character; Otis, who gave his life to save a child's, now more than ever, our most precious asset. We thank you, God, for the peace he enjoys in your embrace. He died as he lived, in Grace. Shane, will you speak for Otis?"

Indigos head turned towards Shane. He looked so much more different then she remembered, his head was shaved. How he was acting though, that was a different man.

"I'm not good at it." He spoke nervously, "I'm sorry."

"You were the last one with him." Patricia said quietly, her eyes were red and puffy from crying, "You shared his final moments. Please. I need to hear. I need to know his death had meaning."

Shane went silent for a brief moment and sighed, "Okay. We were about done. Almost out of ammo. We were down to pistols by then. I was limping. It was bad. Ankle all swollen up. "We've got to save the boy." See, that's what he said."

Indigo eyed the man, he looked guilty and didn't like it.

"He gave me his backpack. He shoved me ahead. "Run," he said. He said, "I'll take the rear. I'll cover you." And when I looked back...if not for Otis, I'd have never made it out alive. And that goes for Carl and Indigo too. It was Otis. He saved us. If any death ever had meaning, it was his."

Indigo could tell the man was lying, she may have been in a coma throughout all of this but she knew he was lying. It was the same exact look he had on his face when he beat Ed. What Ed did was wrong but Shane, she would never shake that bloody picture out of her mind. She caught eye contact with him, her face expressed what she was thinking as he looked away quickly. Shane wasn't the man he said he was.

As the group departed, Indigo, Rick and Shane were the only ones left behind.

"Maggie is cooking dinner soon." Rick spoke aloud, "Did you want to help her."

"Later." Indigo mumbled, "I-I think I might sit with Sophia for a little while."

The girl turned towards the noticeably smaller grave of her friend. She placed a sunflower from the fields on the pile of dirt.

"Okay honey, come find me when you're done." Rick walked off towards the tents where Maggie was begging to sort out the food leaving only Indi and Shane.

"Look, Indi, I know what you're thinking an-"

Indigo cut him off, "Get it through that thick head of yours, Shane. I know what you did and you don't deserve forgiveness. I will tell them if you don't."

Shane was taken back by the girls outburst. She was usually reserved but she was a whole new kid after the accident. He rubbed his shaved head sighing, "I'm the reason you're alive Indi. You and Carl. I brought the medical equipment back, Otis was just not lucky."

Indigo scoffed, "Stop it." She stood up grabbing the pistol Rick had given her. Shane stepped back slightly by the sudden grab of her weapon. Lori disagreed with her having a gun but Rick knew she wouldn't do anything to anyone who didn't deserve it, "You're a coward, Shane. That is all you will ever be."

The crunches of her boots in the dirt were all she could hear as she walked away. She felt better giving him a piece of her mind.
