RACHEL'S POV:
Jake decided I had better be Jack's mount, if he or Gwyn tried anything he knew I wouldn't think too hard about chucking them off my back to save my own life if the worst came to pass. That and my horse was the biggest so I would find it easier to carry two people, especially since Jack wasn't exactly small.
I was having a bit of trouble controlling my morph, the horse seriously didn't like all that electricity being so close. I could barely stop him from jumping to his feet and galloping off. Gwyn wasn't helping me either, it could sense the Yeerk's hatred inside her.
Adrisa approached the ball of energy, she didn't stop until she was directly underneath it, then she spread her arms wide and arched her body upwards.
The ball came down lower and lower until it was inches away from her chest, then they both seemed to merge together. The woman's form just dissolved into dust and appeared to wrap itself around the glowing mass. Shapes formed, they lasted only a millisecond before they changed into the next, one stayed longer then the others, that of a huge four-legged being with immense wings. I couldn't make out anymore of its shape before it to evaporated into the swirling, bulging mass
Then it was over, Adrisa was lying unconscious on the ice. No sign of the accumulation of energy could be seen.
Jack and Sarah Jane raced across the ice and Cassie, Sarah Jane's mount, trotted down to them and waited while they heaved the strange being onto her back. Then Jack gave Sarah Jane a leg-up behind her and ran over to me, he slung his leg over my back and I leapt to my feet.
We galloped up the deer path and away through the trees, I checked to make sure Cassie hadn't run into any problems then I continued after the others who had a head start on us. The pounding of my hooves was almost extinguished by the deep snow that flew up behind me with every stride.
Jack wasn't too bad a rider actually, he didn't even slide off my back when I slipped on some ice, Gwyn almost did but Jack kept her from falling. The trees turned into a blur as we flew past, although the deep snow hindered me from running like I would normally, the horse still wasn't going at it's fastest. A cry in front of us alerted me to Luke's plight, he was slipping off a startled Ax's back.
I charged forward, <Ax! Slow down a bit.> We got level with him and Jack reached over and pushed Luke back onto his back. We stayed along-side them until I was sure he wouldn't start falling again, then Jack nudged me gently with his heels, I briefly considered going rodeo on him for treating me like any other horse but the joy of the run caught up with me and I did as he had suggested.
We powered in front of Ax, then Marco with Yanto bouncing on his back but when I came up to Tobias he matched me stride for stride, no matter how much I tried I couldn't beat him. I noticed Rani laughing on his back as Tobias drew ahead, the terror of what would happen if we were too slow forgotten. On my back I felt Jack tense, he didn't like being laughed at, neither did I. It gave me renewed strength. All of a sudden Tobias was no-longer in front of me. <Careful Rachel, don't push yourself too hard, there's a reason why a horse runs fastest at the end of the race,> warned Tobias.
<Yeah I know, but we don't have to go too far. We must be over half-way by now, aren't we?>
Ax had been listening, <we have travelled approximately one point two kilometres in just over three minutes.>
I could already begin to feel the horse tire so I slowed down a bit, I hadn't realised we still had so far to go.
Jack nudged me with his heels again. Then, when I didn't respond, a bit harder.
<I'm not your horse, Jack, don't kick me if you don't want to fall off. Didn't you hear what Ax just said!>
“Yes but that doesn't mean you have to slow down, the faster we get there the quicker we can stop. Unless you're too tired, that is.”
