“Good afternoon. Please are you Miss Tseju Anne Mobijilade?”Tseju took a quick mental assessment of the young man standing outside her room. He was dressed casually corporate in a Green polo Tee with iDeliver splased boldy across the chest region. The shirt was tucked into a Champagne colored chinos jean that jumped just above the Black canvas he wore. His right hand dangled jobless by his right side while his left hand gripped a neatly wrapped picnic basket bearing the iDeliver logo. Tseju easily recognised the brand, as it was the biggest delivery company in Benin City, specialising in pick up and drop off services, market runs and laundry delivery. What Tseju loved most about the company was that its founder and CEO was a woman, a ruthless dogged businesswoman who had kept iDeliver the biggest delivery company in Benin City despite fierce opposition.
“Yes, that would be me. How can i help you?” Tseju replied with a smile.
“My name is Donald, from iDeliver and i have a package for you from Mr Bayo Ayodeji Jacobs.” The delivery boy named Donald replied, his lips catching the smile on Tseju's face, while his left hand stretched forward to place the basket in her hands.
“Thank you, uhm you don't know what's in it do you?” She asked, a coy smile on her face. It was about four days since Bayo travelled, and everyday since, a different gift turned up on her doorstep. First some flowers and chocolate. She messaged him sharply that she wasn't a chocolate and flowers kinda girl, and the very next day he sent her a box of Dominos Pizza, using the company jet to get it from Lagos to Benin. She had sharply called him berating him on the abuse of his father's company jet, and the next day, which was yesterday, he sent her Banana Bread from Nadia Bakery. The man was obviously trying to bribe his way to her heart through food. Well, it was working.
“I'm sorry, no. I didn't do the wrapping, but it's probably food.” The delivery boy cheekily said, internally rolling his eyes at the dumb question. It was a picnic basket, what else was gonna be in it? A dog??
She thanked him and signed the book signifying that she had received the package.
She barely closed the door before ripping apart the cover. She smiled when she noticed the small handwritten card taped to the side of the basket. That was another thing that was tripping her. Every package came with a handwritten I Miss You note, signed Bayo. She didn't understand how he was doing the handwritten note bit. Did he write all those notes before leaving? Chai, this boys game was tight sha! To top it all up, today's package was from the Royal China Restaurant. Mikoko spring rolls, beef ribs, cowtail and pineapple rice.
As she dished the pineapple rice into small ceramic bowl, Tseju couldn't help but wonder what was so urgent to pull him out of school. They'd barely talked since he left, different time zones and all. But, she always woke up to a good morning text, and he always left a good night text. She missed their lates night convos, she missed his laugh, and most especially, she missed his voice.

“You don't even understand, she was standing right beside him when the girl walked up to him and kissed him!!” Ada all but screamed, gesticulating wildly with her hands.
It was a hot afternoon in Benin and the sun shinning over University of Benin must have graduated with a First Class in Torture and Burn because of how hot it shone over the University grounds. Tseju and the squad stood a small distance from the mouth of the huge walkway leading in and out of the Faculty of Art, or Fakotee as the shuttle drivers called it. They had been on their way home from the last class of the day when Ada remembered gist, and had to drop it as e dey hot!
“Chimoooooo!!! So wait oh, wait fessss,” Tess said, palming her right hand in the air like a traffic warden signalling cars to stop, “Sooooo you mean to say that, after everything,” her tone took on an incredulous pitch, “He cheated?” She finished, her face mirroring the pain and disgust she felt on the inside.
“My sistaaaa ohhhhh!! Menaskum!” Ada concluded.
“No naaaaa, not all men. I agree Chukwudi is an idiot for cheating on Bembem. That girl loves him like an idiot. But not all men are like that.” Tseju said. She'd met amazing men and she definitely did not subscribe to the Menaskum trend.
“Uh, see this one. Why won't you talk like that, when one Yoruba Demon is using your picture to fan garri.” Ada said, laughing and shuffling backwards to dodge the playful punch Tseju was sending her way.
“Is your picture they're using to fan garri, you hear me??? Is your…” Tseju stopped abruptly, blinking her eyes rapidly at the sight in front of her. While the gist had been going back and forth, they'd gotten to where Tseju's Mercedes was parked. From there, you could just about see the Faculty of Engineering. From where Tseju stood, she could just about see Bayo strolling hand in hand into the Faculty of Engineering with some tall skinny girl. She couldn't make out the girls face, but she could make out Bayo’s face anyday anytime. He was smiling. He looked very happy and comfortable with the girl. They were walking so close to each other. He was supposed to be out of the country. She didn't need an explanation, she knew what was happening here. Men are actually scum.
Tseju could hear her friends asking what was wrong, but she was trapped in her head. She could feel the anger slowly drowning her reasoning. She turned and gave the car keys to Ada, “I can't drive, please drive.”
Ada had seen her friend like this way too many times not to know how to handle the situation. She took the keys from her without a sound, motioning to Tess to take her bag and phone from her. After over 10 years of being friends, Ada knew just how quickly Tseju's mood switched and when Tseju got emotional, she could be very irrational. Ada just knew that no matter what, her friend was gonna end up in a bottle tonight. She only hoped she wouldn't do anything that would cause tonight to end up like the last time. She kept on looking in the direction that Tseju had been looking, but all she saw was an ocean of people moving around the Faculty. Putting the car in reverse, she stole one last glance at her friend sitting in the backseat looking like someone stole her baby. Ada knew she'd have to wait until Tseju was ready to spill before she would know what had gone wrong.
