Chapter Five

Four weeks later...

I had been throwing up for two weeks. Josh has been concerned about it. He thinks I have a stomach bug. I haven't seen him all day because he had a lecture. I didn't have classes because it was Thursday and I don't have classes on Thursday. I had bought five pregnancy tests to take. I look at them. They were flipped over. I take a deep breath and flip one over. Pregnant. I flip the next one over. Pregnant. And the next one. Pregnant. And the next one. Pregnant. And the final one. Pregnant. I couldn't be pregnant, could I?

The dorm door opened and I quickly disposed of the tests by putting them in the bottom of the trashcan. "Hey, Hals," Josh says. "Hi, Jish," I say. "No, stop," Josh turns red. "I'm gonna go hang out with Tyler. I'll be back soon." I say. "Okay, I need to work on homework anyways," Josh says. I kiss him and leave. I make a beeline for the water fountain. I text Tyler.

Halsey: You busy? It's important.

Tyler: No, what's wrong?

Halsey: I'll explain everything. Meet me at the water fountain.

Tyler: Okay, be there in five.

I wait for Tyler, five minutes later, he was here. "What's wrong?" Tyler asks. "So, you know how I've been throwing up for two weeks?" I ask. "Yeah, why?" He asks. "I bought some pregnancy tests because I started panicking because I wasn't sure if Josh and I used a condom the night of the party," I say. "And?" Tyler looks at me. "Tyler, I'm pregnant with Josh's baby," I say. Tyler looked dumbfounded. "You're pregnant with the hottest guy on campus's baby?" Tyler asks. "That's a bit of an exaggeration, but, yes," I say. "Halsey, he's your dormmate. And you're only twenty-two." Tyler says. "So?" I raise an eyebrow at him. "You're pregnant at the age of twenty-two. What is your mom going to think?" Tyler asks.

I begin to panic. My mom. I never thought about what my mom would think. "Oh shit," I say. "My mom," "Okay, don't panic," Tyler says. "Don't panic?! My mom is going to kill me!" I shout. People were looking at us but I really didn't care at that moment. I start to pace. Tyler puts his hands on my shoulders. "Halsey, calm down. Everything will be fine," Tyler says. I nod. "Okay," "Go back to your dorm and calm down. Just don't smoke or drink. You could harm the baby." Tyler says. I nod. "I'm gonna go back to my dorm. I'll see you tomorrow, Tyler." I say. We hug and I leave.

As I'm walking back to my dorm, someone grabs my shirt and drags me to the back of the dorm building. Wilson makes me face him. "Don't think I don't know about your fetus, Ashley. I overheard you talking to Tyler about it." He says. I don't say anything. I was frozen with fear. I've heard rumors that Wilson abused his sister in very bad ways. "I know Josh. And I know that he doesn't want to care for a child. I will tell Josh about your mistake if you don't kill it." Wilson says. I still don't say anything. "You know, you're such a whore. You're pregnant with a mistake at the age of twenty-two while you're in college. I ought to tell the Board of Staff about this and get you kicked out." Wilson gets close to my face. My eyes water up. This was my dream university. I can't get kicked out because of a one night stand with my dormmate.

Wilson grabs my arm and squeezes it really hard. I bite my bottom lip to the point that it bleeds. "Please, stop," I beg. "Why? Does it hurt?" He asks. I nod. "Are you scared of me?" He asks. I nod. "You should be," Wilson says. "Get rid of it, before I tell Josh. You have until next Friday to kill your mistake." Wilson walks away. I look at my arm. It started to turn bluish-green. I go inside the dorm building and go to my dorm. I felt like I was going to be sick. I rush to the bathroom and throw up. I flush the toilet and brush my teeth. "You okay, Halsey?" Josh asks. "Y-Yeah, I'm fine." I lie. I clean the blood off my mouth and grab my sweatshirt.

I leave the bathroom and lay under the covers of my bed. Josh lays down beside me and lifts the covers. I pull them back down. "Halsey," Josh says. "I'm not home. Come back at a later time." I say. "What's wrong?" Josh asks. "Nothing, I'm fine," I say. "You know that I love you right?" Josh asks. I shake my head no. "Well, I do," Josh says. "I love you too, Josh," I say. I snuggle up close to him while still under the covers. "You're adorable," Josh says. "You tell me all the time," I say. I was thinking about what Wilson said about Josh not wanting to take care of a child. He loves me. He would help me, I know it. I kiss Josh's hand softly multiple times. He rubs my back with his thumb, tracing circles in the process. I fall asleep snuggled up close to him.
