No matter how tired Grell was, she did not get a wink of sleep the entire night. Dawn eventually came. The rays of sunlight shined through the crimson curtains, irradiating the entire bedroom. While the sunrise was a symbol of a new day for most, it was a symbol of dread for Grell. All she could think about was knowing that her alarm was going to go off in merely ten minutes, which meant that she was going to have to get up and get ready for work. Grell had no doubts that the sleep that refused to come during the night would come back when Grell struggled to finish her dreadful paperwork. She already had a difficult time sitting through all that when she is well rested.
Grell's arm rested across Adrian's torso and she used his chest as a pillow. Before Grell knew it, the remaining ten minutes transitioned into five minutes. Then those five minutes turned into five seconds before the alarm went off.
"Hmm... morning already?" Adrian mumbled sleepily.
"At least the night went by quickly for you... because it didn't for me," Grell replied bitterly.
Adrian glanced down at his lover, concern coming from his half-awoken gaze. "You didn't sleep again?"
Grell shook his head.
"Oh... " Adrian frowned. He wrapped an arm around Grell's shoulders and held him firmly. "I perhaps should have gone harder than."
"No," Grell objected. "You've gone plenty hard enough. Now I'd give it two weeks before I can sit without it hurting. Our session should have been enough to wear me to sleep." The redhead sighed in defeat. "It's hopeless...I'll never sleep again!"
"Oh come on." Adrian smiled at Grell encouragingly. It was a rare moment in which Adrian wasn't being whimsical nor dominantly lascivious. "We've merely tried one thing and it didn't work. There's no reason to give up now."
Grell looked up at the silverhead, meeting his gaze. "Do you have any other ideas?"
"I do, but I don't remember at the moment!" Adrian's warm smile instantly turned into a galactic one. He earned a glare from Grell. "What?"
"Nothing," Grell replied. The lack of sleep was really starting to affect her mood. She took a deep breath and carefully crawled out of Adrian's arm and out of bed. "Merely tired is all."
Without another word, Grell began to get ready for the day. After Adrian basked in the warmth of the bed for the first ten minutes, he went downstairs and began to prepare some black tea, one of the most caffeinated beverages that wasn't coffee. While the tea didn't magically snap Grell back to her old self, it did certainly help her feel less miserable.
Since it is dangerous to drive under the influence of sleep deprivation, Adrian took Grell to work with his car.
"Alright, my love," Adrian said as he pulled up in front of the dispatch building. "Are you sure you can't call in today? I don't think you're in any condition to work, especially those overtime hours."
"Not like I have a choice. Besides, I miss my death scythe," Grell let out a sad sigh. She thought about her beloved chainsaw, causing a sensation of emptiness consume her. Without her scythe, a large part of Grell was missing, as she was no longer as deadly as she used to be.
"I admire your determination." Adrian giggled. He pecked Grell on the lips.
"I'll see you when you pick me up then?" Grell smiled. Adrian nodded, and Grell exited the vehicle before heading into the Dispatch building.
Grell was still exhausted when she walked in, but somewhat functional thanks to the black tea she had this morning. She headed over to her cubicle where a large new set of paperwork awaited her.
