It was a case of a great day gone bad. You were visiting your best friend/crush Romano for the weekend while your parents were out on vacation. So far the two of you had been having a good time. However, once evening hit everything seemed to change.
Romano had just gone out to pick up some things for dinner telling you he would be back soon. He asked you if you wanted to go, but you didn't feel like shopping so you told him you would stay.
It had only been about ten minutes when it started to rain. You walked up to the window and took a look outside at the front yard. The rain was coming down rather hard and the clouds were a dark gray color. You recognized them as thunder clouds and you began to worry a bit. Not a second later there was a flash of lightning followed by a low rumble. You backed away from the window and took a seat on the couch. Bringing your legs up you wrapped your arms around them and hoped that either the storm would go fast or Romano would come back really soon. Another clap of thunder rang through the house, much louder this time. You jumped slightly and buried your head in your arms. A couple minutes passed and the storm still continued showing no signs of stopping soon, and Romano still hadn't come back yet. You thought that maybe some walking around would calm you down. You had never told anyone but, you were afraid of thunder. Just the sound of it would make you freeze.
After walking through the whole first floor, you made your way up the stairs to walk around the second floor. You had just reached the top of the stairs when the loudest clap of thunder sounded. Completely scared at this point you ran for the closest door, which was Romano's room, and dove into his bed curling up under the covers in tears.
"Romano….please come back," you mumbled.

I was trying so hard to get back home fast. The store was so packed it took forever for me to check out. Now in my car driving through this storm, something was telling me I needed to hurry back. That something was wrong. I couldn't explain it, but I could feel it. I had been meaning to tell _____ how I felt about her today after dinner. That I loved her. We had been friends ever since elementary school, and at some point after high school I realized that my feelings had developed into something more for her.
I eventually made it back home without much trouble. As I carried the groceries into the kitchen, I realized that it was really quiet. _____ hadn't even greeted me at the door. That feeling came back in full. Something was wrong, and I started to believe it had to do with _____.
"______?" I called.
There was no answer.
"______?" I called a little louder.
Still no answer. My feet moved on their own. My heart was racing in desperation of finding ______. I searched all of the first floor and couldn't find her, so I went upstairs to look for her.
It's okay, I thought. Maybe she's just taking a nap. There's nothing wrong.
Heading straight for the guest room down the hall there was a rather loud clap of thunder. Straight away I heard a strangled cry. It sounded like it was coming from my room. Carefully I opened the door leading into my room to see a lump in my bed. Another clap of thunder rang out and I watched as the lump jumped and more cries erupted from it.
"Oh ______,"
I walked over to stand next to the bed and gently set my hand on her back. She jumped slightly then pushed the covers back slowly. My heart broke when I looked into _____'s (e/c) eyes. They were full of sadness and fear. In that one moment I wished I could take it all away from her and make it mine instead.

There he was. Romano had come back. You were a little embarrassed for him to see you in this state, but you didn't care right now. He looked so sad though. His face seemed pained by something.
It couldn't be because of me could it? you thought.
More tears threatened to spill over. Romano slowly raised his right hand to your face and stroked his thumb under your eye, wiping away the tears that were about to fall. You were just about to say something when bright lightning flashed into the room followed by the loudest thunder yet. Without thinking you lunged at Romano wrapping your arms around him tightly and started to sob into his chest.
"Shh, shh. It's okay _____. I'm here now, it's alright," Romano whispered while putting his arms around you, holding you tightly against him.
The two of you stayed like that for what seemed like hours. Romano's hand rubbed your back comfortingly and would whisper in your ear. Just knowing that Romano was with you was enough to make you calm down and you eventually stopped crying. Another minute or two passed before the thunder had died down to quiet rumbles. Both of you noticed this and you began to pull back from Romano.
"Are you feeling alright now?" he asked.
You simply nodded your head at him and gave a small smile, "Thank you Romano," you said.
Romano's face blushed bright red. He turned around so you couldn't see him and mumbled, "S-sure thing."
For a moment you smiled, happy to see Romano acting like his regular self.
"I-I…I am…sorry, ______," he said suddenly, "I-If I had known…you were scared of storms, I wouldn't have left you here alone."
You blushed furiously now that your secret had been revealed.
"I-It's not your fault," you replied, "You didn't know. I actually had been trying to keep my fear a secret."
Romano turned to look at you as you continued.
"You know, kinda embarrassing to be afraid of something like thunder. I just didn't want anyone to waste their time on something so silly," you voice lowered as you finished.
Suddenly, Romano had gripped your shoulders and forced you to look at him.
"Don't you dare say that!" he yelled, "Don't you dare say that no one should waste their time on you when your scared!"
His words startled you. Something inside you started to think that he really meant himself in that statement.
"Y-you, really care that much Romano?" you asked.
Romano blushed and his eyes widened as he realized how he must have sounded just now.
Sure Romano, just admit how much you love her right now. Great idea. he thought to himself.
He took a deep breath and softened his gaze on you.
"_____, I….I say this because…I, well….um…" Romano trailed off looking down, leaving you confused.
"Romano?"
You heard him softly say something but couldn't quite make it out.
"I'm sorry, what? I didn't hear you."
"I said ti amo! Ti amo ______!" he shouted, "I…I love you."
You heart fluttered when he confessed. Tears flowed down your cheeks again as you threw your arms around him taking him by surprise and falling to the floor.
"_-_____?" he asked startled.
"Oh Romano, I love you too!" you said.
Romano's heart raced, and he wrapped his arms around you burying his face into your hair. Eventually you lifted your head slightly and looked at him a moment before placing your lips against his. You were surprised when you felt Romano kiss you back with more force. After what seemed like hours you two broke apart to catch your breath.
"You do realize," you started, "I'm never leaving you now."
Romano smiled at you before placing a kiss on your cheek, "I wouldn't prefer it any other way, amore," he replied.
