Kassie's POV

I end up on a stretcher, in the ambulance, as they take me to the hospital. Bella is seated beside me, her eyes full of tears, and her face with the falling tears. I cannot believe that Emmett saved me. He didn't have to. I was in the middle of saving my sister from the van squishing her. He didn't have to do that.

But what I also don't understand is why he saved me. What are his true motives, his true intentions?

Did he even want to save me?

These questions run through my mind as I recall the accident, as well as the details that I tried to point out to him. He wouldn't listen, and I shouldn't have. But I have to know why I'm lying for him. And possibly his family. Somehow, some way, I have an idea that his family is involved in whatever Emmett is hiding from me. And what Edward is hiding from Bella. I can just tell already. Even though I don't even know them that well.

"Kassie?" I hear Bella's soft voice say, and I look up to see her tear-streaked face confused and in deep thought. Oh dear. Here goes my sister.

"Did you see Emmett beside you that whole time?" She questions in a whisper.

I shake my head as I reply, "No, I didn't. I have a feeling that they're hiding something. Not just Emmett, but the others, too. The Cullens are hiding something big, Bella. I can just feel it."

"I know," she sighs, and runs a hand through her brown hair. It falls in her face, and she blows it away as she rolls her eyes. "And have you noticed how their eyes changed?"

"Yeah,"I tell her, and then recall how Emmett's looked when I first saw him that day in Spanish, and not to mention lunch. When I finish talking, her brows furrow, and shakes her head, frustrated.

"Same thing happened with Edward," she replies, in a low voice, so low that I can barely hear her. But I do, and my eyebrows raise. She shakes her head again and sighs. "But, Kass, you shouldn't have pushed me out of the way. It's my job to save you, not the other way around. I am the older sister."

"By like ten minutes," I joke, and she laughs a little, a small smile touching her face.

"Doesn't make a difference. I am still older than you, Kass," she states firmly, and I sigh, not saying a word. When Bella gets this protective, I have learned that it is best not to contradict her.

When we arrive at the hospital, I am taken into a room immediately, and I can see Emmett Cullen and Edward talking in a nearby corridor. When Edward catches my eye, he frowns, and turns to Emmett, facing away from me now. Already I can tell that they are talking shit. When I did nothing. Absolutely nothing.

"Alright, honey, don't get up or anything. The doctor will be here shortly," a nurse tells me kindly, and I only nod, watching as she walks away from the room, and out into the hallway.

I sigh, frustrated, and take off the neck brace the very second that I do not see her anymore. Bella tries to protest, but I brush her hand away and throw it into the corner of the room.

"Kass..." she warns, and I smirk as I look at her.

"Bella..." I mimic her tone, and she rolls her eyes as she shakes her head.

"Leave it up to you to not worry about your own injuries," she mutters under her breath, and I cock my head to the side, smiling.

"What was that, Bella?"

"Nothing. Just make sure you stay here, okay? I'm going to call Dad," she says, and before I can protest, she walks out, and I can hear her asking a doctor if she can use the phone.

"Sure, it's out by the reception," a musical voice responds, and immediately my body tenses. So a doctor didn't respond to her.

It's Emmett's voice.

I'd know it anywhere.

What in the world is he doing here?

As he comes in, I narrow my eyes and keep myself tensed, waiting for the pleading from him to not say a word to anyone. Even my overprotective sister and father.

"Kassie, how are you doing?" I don't respond, only glare at him as he sits down on a chair beside the stretcher that I am on. Despite what the nurse told me, I decide to sit up, and as I do so, Emmett puts out a hand, so as to stop me, but I brush it away and get into a sitting position.

"What do you really want, Emmett? And don't ask me if I'm okay, I know what you're really here for. You're here to change my mind, aren't you? To scare me into not saying anything? Well, I am not scared of you, and I am not going to say anything to anyone, for your information."

"Kass-"

"Don't say my nickname, just call me by my full name, Emmett."

"I'm sorry, I-"

I interrupt him again as I shake my head quickly and furiously. But before I can get all the words out, I see Bella come in, and her eyes tighten as she sees Emmett.

"What are you doing here?" He doesn't respond, so she continues. "And don't say you're here to check on her. You might have saved her life, but you don't know what confusion you put her through, and especially not giving her the explanation she deserves. Don't you think it's odd that you don't explain why there's a dent from your hand on Tyler's van?" She says everything firmly, protectively, and the last part in a lower voice, almost a whisper, so that no one else can hear.

"I'm sorry, I should go," Emmett says frostily as he looks at my sister.

"Don't you dare use that tone with my sister, Emmett. And you still owe me that explanation." I cross my arms over my chest and my eyes narrow as I glare at him.

"I don't owe you anything."

"Yes, you do. You have quite a bit of explaining to do."

"I saved your life, so therefore I don't owe you anything. Can't you just thank me and get it over with?" He asks coldly.

"Don't you use that tone with her," my sister warns him, but before she can say anything else, I hold up a hand to shush her, and turn to Emmett, keeping my expression neutral.

"Thank you," I tell him in the same tone that he used with me.

"You're welcome," he says in that same tone.

We stay glaring at each other for a moment, when my sister steps in front of me. I push her away and say to Emmett: "I will not forget about this, Emmett Cullen. I will find out whatever it is that you're hiding from my sister and I, if you do not care to explain your actions."

He sighs and runs a hand through his dark hair. "You aren't going to let this go, are you?"

I shake my head. "No, hell no. Why in the world would you think that?" I throw my hands up in the air, exasperated, and then sigh, shaking my head again. "Whatever, you can go now. But be warned, I will find out your secret." I wave my hand in a "shoo" motion, and his eyes sadden, for some reason that I cannot tell, as he leaves the room of the hospital.

"Kass, if you want me to-" I already know what Bella is going to say, so I interrupt her and stop her before she can continue.

"Don't, Bella, just leave it alone. Thank you for your good intentions and for your protectiveness and good intentions, but I can handle this one."

And then a thought runs through my mind.

I will find out what you're hiding, Emmett. But you will have to explain once I do, you cannot avoid that.
