Max's Point of View
Last day. Today is the last fucking day of camp. I hate to admit this, but I don't want to leave. I don't want to leave Nikki and Neil. I don't want to leave my friends.
For fucks sake, I don't want to leave David.
The people here are the only ones who ever showed care to one another. Especially David.
And I treated them like shit.
I walked around camp, watching the other kids. Then Nikki ran up to me.
"Hey Max!" She yelled.
"Hi?"
"Come on, we're going on an adventure!" She said as she pulled me towards Neil by the dock. There was a rowboat ready.
"What are we doing?" I asked.
"We are going to Spooky Island to say goodbye to Jasper." Neil said.
"But isn't Campbell there?" I asked.
"Yes, but he's cleaning out his summer home. We'll be outside." Nikki said as she pushed me onto the boat. Neil got in then Nikki.
"Why's he doing that again?" I asked as Neil started to row.
"They're going to tear it down, since that house it just sitting there." Nikki said.
"Yeah, so he's getting the furniture and stuff out to see if anything is salvageable." Neil stated.
I nodded and we arrived at the island a few minutes later.
Nikki jumped out while Neil pit the paddles in the boat. I stepped out and Neil followed me."Hey! Jasper! You here?" Nikki yelled.
We heard rustling in the bushes and Jasper stepped out.
"Hey guys!" He said.
"Hey Jasper." Nikki said. Neil just smiled and waved and I nodded.
"What are you guys doing here?" Jasper asked.
"Today's the last day of camp. We were here to say goodbye!" Nikki said.
"Aww, that sucks." Jasper said, sadly.
I felt sad, too. I don't want this to be the last day.
"Don't worry!" Neil said. "We'll be back next summer! Right guys?"
Nikki nodded excitedly.
"Radical!" Jasper exclaimed.
I felt tears prick at my eyes, but I blinked them away. What if I don't get to come back?
What if I don't even make it to next Summer?
"Max?"
I looked at Neil.
"We're leaving." He said. Nikki was getting in the boat already. Neil gave me a look of concern before going up to Jasper to say goodbye. Then he got into the boat.
I walked up to Jasper.
"You okay?" He asked.
"If you weren't a ghost, I'd punch you." I said. "People keep asking, and I keep saying: I'm fine."
"Sorry." Jasper said. "If I weren't a ghost, I'd give you hug."
I was taken back. "What? Why?"
