After we entered the atmosphere of Rasputkov's planet, we bumped something in the air. Apparently Smorozov's world has frozen clouds. Once we landed we went into Rasputkov's lander, we then opened his cryotank. I then checked his pulse on his neck, the way I was taught in CPR classes at Boy Scout camp. However, as soon as I touched his neck he sat up and coughed up water. When he saw me, he hugged me and started crying. When he got him self together he told us we don't want to feel what it is like to not see a human face in years. At that moment Jess asked him to tell us about his world.
Rasputkov said his world had long days and long harsh nights about 69 hours each. He said at his high elevation the atmospheric air was had to much ammonia in it to be breathable, but down on the surface there were hydrocarbons. According to Rasputkov there was organic material on the surface and that meant that terraforming the surface was possible. I told Mark that we might be sharing this world.
Now Rasputkov had a wrecked robot called Rex and Lars asked could take a look at him. Rasputkov said no because the robot had mistakenly identified organic materials as ammonia and therefore he had decided to decommission the bot on the account of deterioration. He said that he used Rex's "power source" to maintain the mission.
We then set out and explore the planet. Mark showed us how beautiful is world is, but it obviously lacked beaches. This didn't really matter to me since I was more of mountain person. Mark then asked me if I knew about the backup plan. I told him that I didn't. Jessica then explained that the backup plan was basically frozen seeds that were carrying on board the Endurance.
These seeds included produce, live stock and enough human seeds to get started a population in the thousands. I asked Jessica when she was planning to tell me about these seeds and she said that she thought her father had told me. I then send Jessica to go get these frozen seeds. I have Cole and Chang see if they can get Rasputkov's robot working again. Meanwhile Mark and I set out towards the surface.
When we got to a lower elevation; Mark admitted something that shocked me and made me a little angry at him. He told me that there wasn't anything on this planet for us. I told him he was a coward. He obviously took offense to this probably because he was ashamed of this.
He then tackled me and we began to tumble down the small hill we were on. He then did something else that surprised me and was actually kind of stupid. He began to punch me on my helmet and did that once before I told him that he was more likely to break his hand then break my helmet open.
He then a rock but that was when I grabbed him by the arm and forced him to toss the rock away. He then cried out pain and began to bang on my helmet with his fist. He managed to crack it just enough to expose me to the air of this unworthy planet.
He then just left me there suffering but I managed to radio Jessica to ask her to come and rescue me. I was practically unconscious due to lack of oxygen when finally got to my rescue. So naturally I thought she was an angel when I first saw her. She took off my cracked helmet, put on an oxygen mask, and then helped me to my feet. She let me lean on her as we trudge toward her lander.
As we are flying I spot Chase and so we decreased altitude in order for him to jump in our lander. I asked him where the others were and he told me there was an explosion in landing pod where Cole and Chang were working on Rex. Jessica said that Lars was on the Endurance; at least he was safe. I told Jessica that Rasputkov betrayed us and killed Cole and Chang.
We then head back up into orbit towards the Endurance; only to find out that Rasputkov had highjacked our Ranger and was going to attempt to dock with the Endurance. I asked Chase if Rasputkov could dock with the Endurance and Chase said; "I don't think he's going to be able to he doesn't know the docking procedures." I pointed out that the autopilot would but Chase said that Lars disabled it. "Nice!" I said in relief.
Jessica asked me if it was possible for him to dock manually. I told her he would have to do one handed since he busted his hand on my helmet. I thought about that for a little bit and then immediately got on the radio to try and persuade Mark not to dock with the Endurance.
I watched as Mark ignored me and attempted to dock anyway. It looked like he had succeeded but when I radioed Lars to find out if he had docked; Lars told me he docked imperfectly. I then asked Chase what would happen if he opened the hatch and Chase said; "Nothing good and the airlock would depressurize."
That was when I told him not to open the hatch by saying: "Mark what ever you do, do not open the hatch and I repeat do not open the hatch." I told him that the airlock would depressurize but I half wondered if he cared. I even let Jessica try and convince him. All she could say was; "Mark listen to me, it's..." We both watched as he blew the airlock, which sent the Endurance spinning out of control towards the planet we were just on.
We both cussed after we saw that Rasputkov blew the airlock and then Jessica said that the Endurance didn't have a heat-shield. That was when I took the controls of the lander and piloted it towards the spinning Endurance. Jessica asked me what I was doing and I told her "Docking." Jessica asked me if I was crazy which I ignored since she probably already knew the answer. Chase told me docking would be impossible, but I told him it was necessary.
I ordered Chase to match the RPMs of our Lander with that of the Endurance. Chase said the Endurance was spinning at about 67 or 68 RPMs. At this point I was close enough to the Endurance that I could study the exact rotation of it from the window but while I was doing that Chase told me there was no time for caution.
After he said this I told him to take the controls in case I blacked-out. I then told Lars to engage the auto pilot and then I blacked-out. Then I hear Chase announce that we were locked on and so I fire up the engines in order to push us out of orbit.
Once we got out of orbit Jessica went to check out the damage of the endurance. The frozen seeds for the backup plan were still in tact but the habitat module was depressurized. I also found out that some of the spin thrusters were damaged. This meant we would have no artificial gravity.
I then asked Lars what the next closest planet was and he said Preposulo's planet was the nearest. I knew Jessica would be happy, also I couldn't wait to give this guy the spill about what Rasputkov did to us and so I decided to set coarse for his planet. Once Lars set the coarse for Preposulo's world, Jessica and I got in our tanks.
When we reached Preposulo's world and got out of our tanks I told Jessica that I would wait with Lars on the endurance. She told me she couldn't have me do this but I told her I was going to try and repair the endurance. She still refused and I told her to take Chase with her. She called me by my first name and told me to go on to Reorgger's world.
She then hugged me and said that she couldn't imagine a life without her true love. This brought me to tears, that was when she patted my head and I asked her was if her father was aware of this. She said her father would understand and that was when I said take the lander. I agreed to take Ranger 2 when the endurance reached Reorgger's planet. She said her dad taught her how to fly the lander because he didn't think I was alive. However she took Chase anyway just to make sure the landing went smoothly.
As I watched her leave I started crying again. I decided I was to upset to fix the endurance and so I walk to the cryogenic sleep tank crying. Lars said; "I can't put you in tank with you like this." I just told him to set course for and those were my last words before I went back to sleep for another year.
