20 December 2018

Almost 3 months after Hyde Park

Baby Rosie watched as Sherlock played Jingle Bells on his violin. It's almost Christmas and two weeks have past since the incident at Hyde Park. The happy cheery sound of the song slowly turned into a slow melanholic tune of Sakura as he thought about (Y/N). He missed her ever since she went off the grid. Mycroft would tell him anything so he had to wait for her to come back.

Whenever that was.

John was busy hanging Christmas Lights along the mantelpiece as Sherlock was reluctant to help. He mounted the last metre of lights onto the bookshelf and turned to Sherlock who was too focused on his music to look at him. 'Are you at least going to help with the tree?'Sherlock didn't respond and John sighed in response. He leaned against Sherlock's favorite chair, his arms crossed.

'You miss her, don't you?'  Sherlock sighed and continued playing. John was wrong. He didn't miss her. He longed for her. He missed looking at those glinting (E/C) eyes and her beautiful laugh. He lost his chance then and he lost it now. It took his entire will to not cry in front of them. He finished the song and headed for the kitchen. He poured himself a cup of coffee and added two sugars.

🔱

'Which one should I shoot first?' Duncan pointed  the gun at John then Sherlock then back and forth. (Y/N) held the gun by her side, shaking in fear. Duncan smacked the gun against John's cheek, blood trickled down the corner of his mouth. He felt the back of the gun collide against the back of his skull as his ears began ringing.

'Stop!' (Y/N) lifted her gun but it was too late. Duncan's gun fired and she fell, the fresh bullet hole in her stomach began bleeding. The SO19 teams raced in to take action and Duncan was surrounded by men with bigger guns. They arrested him and Sherlock felt blood trickle down the back of his neck.

Lestrade rushed to him. 'Sherlock. Sherlock! Are you ok?' He didn't respond but instead looked past him. (Y/N) getting wheeled to the hospital was the last thing he saw before he blacked out.

He sprang upright, cold sweat on his forehead and unsteady breathing filled the room. Sherlock was alone with only the sound of his breathing to accompany him. The scar at the back of his head wasn't bleeding and there was no John next to him with a bleeding mouth. Just him and silence.

🔱

They clapped as he finished Silent Night on his violin. He placed it down and grabbed his cup of eggnog. Lestrade was busy chatting with Mycroft about their ugly sweaters and Molly trying to tie the last minute ribbon around her present. Ms. Hudson served cookies and eggnog whilst John was keeping Rosie from eating the Christmas lights. It would be a perfect if he had someone by his side.

Knock knock. The party turned to the door as the knocks grew persistent. Sherlock opened it to see a delivery with a rather nicely wrapped present. 'Package for a Mr. Sherlock Holmes.' He signed the form and tipped the man a pound. He plopped on the couch with the present in hand. It was a box wrapped with dark blue with constellations drawn on with a icy blue ribbon to finish.

'Ok, time for presents!'

🔱

The party ended approximately at midnight. The guests had gone and John took Rosie upstairs for their bedtimes. Sherlock was left lonely in the living room with his present. He grabbed the scissors and carefully cut off the ribbon and wrapping paper. He opened the box and picked up the item inside. It was a beckoning cat had a blue scarf identical to his own scarf wrapped around it's neck.

Next to it was a piece of multimedia paper that when picked up showed a portrait of Sherlock and John who was holding baby Rosie in his arms painted with watercolors. He turned it around to find a note.

To Sherlock,

I'm sorry I left. I needed to set things right. The Iapetus Project had done more damage that Mycroft and I expected. I can't tell you where I am and I don't want you following me. It's for your own safety.

I want you to know that I'm fine. I hope and pray that you are alright. I'll resurface soon but not at the moment. I hope you enjoy the beckoning cat I gave you. Goodbye.

Love,
(Y/N)
