Chapter Ten: Safe

Mayhem's girlfriend doesn't talk to me while she prepares the room I can use during my stay in the cabin with her. When she's done, she turns to me with a smile glowering on her lips. I can't help feeling envious at how beautiful her face is.

"This is Mayhem's room but since he doesn't really stay here a lot, you can have it."

"Thank you." I say in almost a whisper, trying to sound calm and polite. "If you don't mind me asking, how long are you guys together?"

You really can't help asking huh? Why does Mayhem's relationship with her matter to you Violet? I plan originally to get in her mind to know the answer. But I couldn't get the connection, she's not looking me in the eyes.

"Together?" She snaps back.

Instead of digging deep into the conversation, I raise my hand to stop her from talking. I hear voices. To get a clearer perception, I close my eyes and try to concentrate. It's Forsythe! He's arguing with Mayhem and they're in the tunnel at the moment, both walking swift towards... here.

"What are you? Out of your mind? You left your sister with a crazy Youngblood!"

"Violet isn't what you think! What's the problem with you?"Mayhem retorts to defend me.

"You tell me! What's the problem with you!? Are you in love with her?"

"Are you okay?" Mayhem's girlfriend asks, shutting me out from my vision.

"Ye-yes. Thanks." I stutter in reply while I grasp for my chest. My heart beats so fast that I can already feel it in my ears.

"Are you sure? I should probably get you water. You wait here."

Just a few minutes after she left, Forsythe and Mayhem arrives. I am unable to move looking at Forsythe whose eyes manifest wrath and disgust towards me.

"You can fool everyone with that innocence you fake on that pretty face of yours but Youngblood, not me." He says angrily and before I could say a word, he begins dragging me out. However, Mayhem is quick enough to stop him. He pulls me to him, making me hug him.

"Forsythe, trust me on this. Nothing will happen to my sister. Nothing will happen to the flock. I will kill Violet myself if you are right about her. But I trust her that she's not one of those Youngbloods." He tells him with conviction.

"What's going on here?" The girl interjects who I thought is Mayhem's girlfriend but turned out to be his sister.

"Love." Forsythe utters as he runs to her. "You're coming with me. You are no longer safe here."

"You're not taking my sister anywhere, Sythe!" Mayhem declares in an angry tone. I pull myself away.

"Mayhem. It's okay. I will just leave."

"See dude? She wants to leave now and you know what she'd do next? She'll tell her kind about your sister's location and have us all killed."

"What are you talking about?" Love interferes again.

"You're deluded. If it gives you the assurance, I will stay here. Does that work for you now?" Hearing no reply from his friend, Mayhem instead gestures his sister to get in. And she obeys him right away.

"Don't you see King? She began that fire to get your sympathy and gain your trust!" Forsythe blares. He's back at it again. He's really never giving this up.

"You don't know anything! Someone is trying to hurt Violet. After that fire, someone tried to threaten her life and then there's the explosion! We have to protect her. Isn't that we, snakes, do? She is just a victim too!"
