.two.

"Here it is." Dempsey breathed, gesturing to an old apartment building that had been abandoned by humans years ago. He could almost smell them; the fear, it was like fuel for him.

Michael had only been in town for a few hours and already the shifters were hiding. News of his return had obviously gotten around. He was thankful Dempsey knew where the nest was, he wouldn't tell her that though. The fact they were hiding made it f\entertaining for him. He always liked a little game of hide-seek-and-kill once in a while. He slowly entered the building with the brunette girl following close behind him, relying on his stealth to remain hidden and he got his compass out to find out where they were exactly in the five story bulding.

The shifter compass led him to a door at the end of a long hallway on the third floor. There were rats running around and roaches who ran scared as his boots hit the carpeted floor with soft movements.

With a sudden kick, he knocked the door in and he heard the terrified screams of the shifters as they saw him. Some of them were huddled together, hiding their faces as if them not seeing Michael meant he couldn't see them either. Some preferred to jump out the nearest window and possibly survive the fall over dying at the hands of the hunter. While the rest ran around like scared rats, trying to find a way out.

Those were the ones Michael shot at first. It was like a game to him as he shot each of them with ease, most of them were teens and dropped one by one to the ground, lifeless.

Next he went for the ones huddled together while Dempsey remained in front of the exit, shooting anyone who tried to get past her. A dark smirk tugged at the corners of his lips in amusement. He knew it was wrong to kill people, but there was so much anger and buried emotions that were begging to escape.

His outlet just happened to be killing shifters.

Before he knew it, there was a pile of bodies on the ground. When he made sure they were dead, he checked their pockets for money. He knew no one would ever look for these people, or more likely the cops would just hide everything. For years the government had been aware of the existence of shifters, but they kept it a secret from the public.

And whenever a shifter died, nothing was ever done out of fear that the rest of the world would find out that there were people with superhuman abilities. Michael was stuffing some money into his pockets along with Dempsey when he saw a chair shift to the side in the torn up kitchen.

Thinking it was a rat, he left it alone. From the corner of his eye, he saw a girl with long dark hair emerge from under the rubble of what used to be a wooden table. She thought Michael hadn't seen her and she tried to tip toe her way out of the old apartment. But Michael saw her and followed her i  the shadows as she left the building. Dempsey pulled her Diamond Rose out and pointed it at the young girl as she headed for the exit to the building. She was about to shoot when Michael stopped her, whispering. "What are you doing?"

"That's her." Dempsey said. "She's the elusive one. I'm gonna kill her before she gets away."

"No." Michael shook his head. "You're no longer assigned this job. Its my turn to do what you couldn't."

Dempsey rolled her eyes in annoyance, putting her gun away. "Fine."

When the three were finally out of the old building, he called out to her, making her freeze dead in her tracks. "Hey you!"

She looked over her shoulder to see Michael held the silver gun in hand, pointing it at her. And she made a run for it. Normally Michael would have shot her and it would have ended there, but he didn't and instead he chased after her, leaving a confused Dempsey behind.

He chased her down the streets until she turned sharply into an alley way. Michael smirked as he turned into the alley to see it was a dead end. The girl whipped around to face him and his jaw dropped when he was able to get a good look at her. She was dressed in a black leather jacket and skinny jeans, just like Harley did back home. Her blue eyes were brimmed with tears and her ivory skin reminded her of the girl he cared about back in Sydney. On her beautiful face was a look of terror and as she backed up into a brick wall that signalled the end of the line for her, he had her in his hands. But when he even thought about pulling the trigger, it pained him.

He saw Harley in her eyes.

"Please," She gulped. "Please don't kill me."

Behind him, he could hear the thumping of footsteps as Dempsey reached them. When she stopped, he heard her trying to catch her breath and the sixteen year old looked from the hunter to the hunted. She shouted at Michael. "We have her! Shoot her now!"

"Please don't." The girl cried.

"Why not?" He asked her, his heart pounded against his chest. His mouth was agape in awe and his head begged for a good reason to spare her life.

"H-harley." The blue eyed girl stuttered. When she saw the surprise on his face, she continued. "You won't kill me because you see her when you see me. I...remind you of her."

Eyeing her suspiciously, he spoke, "How do you know that?"

"I can hear your thoughts." She informed him. "Your mind is jumbled with troubled thoughts about things I can't put together. But she is a prominent image in it. You see her in me and that's why you won't pull that trigger."

He watched as she bit her lip nervously. Suddenly, he felt unsafe in his own thoughts. He had never met a shifter like her before; with a rare talent like the one she posessed. Most shifters had the common gift of being able to travel to the other dimension. But there were few who couldn't and were left with different gifts.

"Michael, kill her!" Dempsey hissed.

With a sigh, he slid the silver gun into his pocket and said to her, "Go. Just this once you can escape." She nodded her head quickly and walked past him. For a second, she stopped before turning the corner. She looked like she was going to say something to him, but he wouldn't allow it. "Hurry! Before I change my mind blast your fucking head off." He growled and she ran into the dark of the night.

"What the fuck?" The sixteen year old hunter exclaimed in disbelief. In her anger, her hand went to grip the fabric of his shirt. "What the fuck is wrong with you? You let her go! I told you not to."

But Michael was lost in his own thoughts. When Dempsey let go of him, he slid down to the ground and held his head in his hands. It wasn't like him to spare someone's life like that. It had only happened with Harley, and now with the girl who reminded him of her.
