You know in the beginning I truly believed that the supernatural world was only a myth. That the old stories were told to little kids way back when to make them obedient. My own father would tell me fantastically ridiculous stories of ghosts and goblins, vampires and werewolves, and all the other monsters in the dark. My personal favorite was his story of Angels and Demons, or as he called it, Feathers and Shadows. I was around 6 or so when he first told it to me and I became addicted to the story and I still have no idea why 11 years later. Not until I moved schools junior year to an old suburban high school named Gabriel High.

"Wake up Ruby your first day is today!" my father shouted up the stairs stirring me from my slumber.

"Okay I'm up dad!" I called back down. I looked over the mess of clothes and CDs on my bed until I found the clock, which was supposed to blare Ten Thousand Fists at 5:30. I shook my fist at it thinking of ways to utterly destroy the damn thing.

I looked through one of my boxes until I found the cute red thong I bought in secret for special occasions like this and the matching bra hooked to it by a zip tie. I quickly put them on then threw on a pair of homemade shorts and a form hugging Avenged Sevenfold T-shirt that I ripped in the back near the top.

After I was done getting dressed, I headed into the bathroom to style my jet black naturally straight hair praising my father for his family's hair and silently cursing my mother's side of the family for having huge boobs and ass that always get in the way. While applying my eyeliner my alarm clock decides to FINALLY go off and scare the shit out of me and makes me poke myself in the eye. I kick it across the room yelling profanities at it then collapse on the bed holding my foot in agony. I gently pull on a random pair of socks from my drawer and see the picture of my best friend Zoey and I on top of my dresser, we were leaving Mayhem Festival, and pay a silent tribute to all the friends I left behind when I had to move. Then grab my shoes and my heavy ass backpack and hustle to the table where there are eggs and bacon waiting. Right there I blessed my moms side for being able to stay dancer thin at the waist and chow on the food.

"Come on hurry up, your going to be late for school." my dad says as he throws the keys to my baby on my just emptied plate 'How the hell does he do that from across the room' I thought as I rushed out the door screaming goodbye and open the door to my 2014 Dodge Challenger RT, rev up the modified engine, and back out.

"Have a good day sweetie and drive safe" he shouts as I pop in my favorite CD of Disturbed and take off squealing the tires as I go to piss him off.

I settle to a steady 45 mph going down the winding road. I reach down to change the track when I see this smoking hot, tall dark and handsome, guy walking down the road. I thought I saw a tail disappear inside his leather Pantera coat but dismissed it as a stick or trick of the eye. I stop next to him and roll down the window.

"Hey," I said "where you going?"

"Gabriel High School" he said.

"Oh I'm heading there too, can I give you a ride?" I asked almost desperate he'd say yes.

"Why? You don't even know me for all you know I'm a serial killer or something." he said still walking and not showing his face.

"I guess I'll have to take a chance then won't I?" I say back.

He sighs deep and I see his obviously muscular shoulders rise and fall. "Sure," he says "that would be fantastic."

He finally turns toward me and I see the most gorgeous green and blue eyes of my life. I almost forget to unlock the door and let him in. He sits silently next to me and doesn't say anything the whole ride, despite my attempts at conversation.

We pull up to the school when he says "Let me off here."

He said it so suddenly I jump and slam on the brakes angering the Bug behind me. "Okay Mr.Chatter," I say " or do you have a real name?" I ask with my most teasing smile.

He sighs and as he's getting out says, "Dylan, my name is Dylan."

"Okay," I say " hi Dylan nice to meet you, you can call me Ruby." He pauses for a second then gets out and walks to the doors. 'Well that was weird he acted almost like he recognized me or something' I thought. 'Hmm he most know someone who knew my mother, she was born here and I was named after her.' I shrugged and pulled my car into the junior-senior parking lot. I got my bag and parking license and swiped it into the machine that monitors the cars. It beeped and I headed into the building with a smile on my face.
