A Dream

I pause, taking in my surroundings. A serene, beautiful place; with white sands and a clear sky. A name would suit this place. Heaven, I'd say. But there was something missing. The sound of clashing waves kissing the shoreline, the whisk of fresh air greeting me with a smile. The conditions in which a pristine beach would have.

I walk closer to the shore, the noise of sand crunching under my toes. There were dozens of aquatic animals on the beach, washed up and pleading for help. The wails of turtles, the cries of the whales. I wipe a tear from my eyes. I had no more tears, my mouth was dry, my skin was becoming flakier, and the sky did not even exist. My dream warped into a horror story, where I was the victim. The wails became louder, the cries even more desperate. I scream, but there is no sound.

I jolted up, and I realize.

I live in the present,

where oceans no longer exist.
