"Next up is...Melanie Parker!" The teacher yelled out. I knew this moment would come. I could do it. It's just a speech. You got this.

I started to get out of my desk and it screeched against the ugly green tile. Everyone's head turned and look at me with either a smirk or a sympathetic expression. My face turned cherry red. I kept repeating encouraging words in my head. Update, they weren't working. Taking a deep breath I made my way to the podium to give my prepared speech.

"Whenever you're ready, Miss Parker, I'll start the timer and you can start." Miss Gonzales smiles warmly. She knew how bad I am at public speaking yet she still made me do this.

"B-biology. It is t-the study of l-l-life." I pause to steady my heartbeat and try to sort out my words.

"The study o-of li-living things." I pause, my hands shake so bad that I can't hold my note cards steady and end up dropping them all over the floor.

Without a second to breathe I hear a chuckle from the back of the room. A chuckle that soon turns into a roar of students laughing. I start seeing spots of all different colors and the air gets thick.

"W-wait, I-i. S-stop, p-please." My lungs get heavy and my vision starts to be overrun with an inky darkness. My head hits the floor and that's the last thing to be remembered.

3RD PERSON P.O.V.

Melanie was passed out on the ugly tile floor with her note cards like a colorful shroud around her. The class had quieted down and Miss. Gonzales was out of her desk and next to the girl in a flash.

"Uhm, can someone take her to the nurse's office?" The class was mostly stick-skinny girls who wouldn't be caught dead near the nerd. And the rest were quiet, and muscle-lacking angsty kids.

"No? Oh, okay. Well Sydney, please go to the next classroom over and bring someone who can take her to the nurse." Sydney gets up and leaves.

Now the thing about this was that Sydney was the head cheerleader, a size 2, and flawless left and right. If anybody could get anything it'd be Sydney. And recently she'd been trying to get the captain of the basketball team, Danny Williams. He was next on her "To-Do List". So to maximize her chances of crossing him off the list she pretended to care. So she found his classroom and she did what she did best. Look helpless and innocent.

"Oh my! Sorry to interrupt Mr. Wavers, but Miss. Gonzales needs to borrow one of your strongest students." She says in her slight southern-belle accent.

"And why does she need a strong student?" He inquires, quirking a full, dark brow.

"Oh it was terrible! Melanie fainted during her speech and she's unconscious." She fakes a few tears and most of the guys in the classroom were turned to face her with a mix of sympathetic and yearning. All but a few angsty teens and Danny.

"Goodness, that sounds serious. Oh uhm, let's see....Daniel. You're excused to go help. Hurry back." He dismisses the boy and they walk out together.

In the hall, Danny keeps his distance. But Sydney has other plans, she brushes up against his shoulder and smiles alluringly. His eyes drift away from her and he quickens his pace.

"What's the hurry, Danny?" The belle asks. She's completely done with pretending to care about Melanie.

"We have somewhere to be, Sydney. And don't even try to play your little game because I know what you're doing. I'm not letting you cross me off your list. Just keep your distance okay?" He doesn't even spare her a glance as they approach Melanie's tall frame.
