Chapter 17
"Drew, calm down," Braydon says, holding up his hands as he slowly rises to his feet.
"Calm down?! You want me to fucking calm down? I just found out my best friend and a slave are hiding my soulmate away! Tell me where she is or I swear that I'll kill you both on the spot," he snarls, focusing more on Braydon than at me.
His pierce make me feel like my stomach is dropping to my feet and quickly try to think of something to calm him down at least a little bit because wow he's really angry about this. "Kill me you kill her," I tell him, keeping my gaze at his chest so I don't have to look him in the eye.
A few seconds later, he finally asks, "what?"
"I know her personally," I lie, keeping my hands behind my back. "She's really close to me-"
"They're attached at the hip," Braydon cuts in, making me glare at him. He gives an innocent smile back before watching Drew carefully, which I'm assuming is to make sure that he doesn't accidentally snap and kill us both.
"If she finds out you killed me, she'll kill herself. She can't live without me," I continue. Technically that isn't a lie, right?
Who am I kidding? That has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever said out loud. Did my brain just shut down or something?
"Please..."
At the sound of his voice, my head snaps up in slight shock. His voice just sounded so...pathetic. It mirrors his expression too; he looks so tired like he hasn't rested in five years. Considering that I was only 'away' for one night, he proves Braydon's claim earlier true that he was running around looking for me. He's really putting all this effort to try and find me?
I stare at him for a few more moments before sighing. "I guess I can find her and tell her to meet you somewhere," I hesitantly say, looking between the both of them carefully.
Drew's voice shifted from depressed to ecstatic while Braydon just looks surprised and some other expression that I can't identify quiet clearly. Great, I just know that I'm going to regret this.
"You'll do that?" he asks.
I nod in response and give a tight smile. "Just meet m- her at midnight by the lake. I'll let her know to meet you there," I tell him, just as he runs out of the room. A small part of me feels hurt that he didn't express any form of gratitude but I push that feeling down knowing that I know more important things to worry about.
Besides, it's not like he knows that it's me. It's silent for a few minutes in the room before Braydon starts to speak again. I almost forgot that he was here. "If I know that all it took was Drew asking then I would have-"
"Just please call Maybelle and tell her to get in her," I say, slightly glaring at his amused look.

"I said Maybelle, not everyone else," I say, glaring at Braydon. What is it with them and telling everything to each other? All five of us are in the room, either sitting on the bed or somewhere on the floor.
"I had to bring them in, Sabrina," Maybelle explains. "They needed a break from my brother."
"Plus we want to see how your date goes," Layton adds.
"It's not a date!" I snap, crossing my arms over my chest. It's bad enough that I'm putting myself at more risk by doing this, but the last thing I need are any romantic attachments. It would only make things more complicated for me and I might get carried away.
He rolls his eyes and starts messing with one of my daggers that I left lying around.
"What about this dress?" Maybelle asks, holding up a regular red dress that looks like wool but more smooth.
