I walk down the street away from the school towering behind me. Christmas break for college, yay. Uuuuhg I wish I had a life. At least in school there were other people to talk too. Oh well, it's only a little longer until classes start up again. I turn into the Barnes and Noble that's on campus. Walking past a few shelves of books, I decide I have enough reading material already. Take note though, I didn't say too much. After all, there's no such thing as too many good books.
I go to the playing cards and start looking around. Pokémon, bleck I'm not 8 again. Magic, no one to play with, aaaaand there she is. Poker cards. Let's see what all they have. Hmmm regular ones, ooooh turquoise. Maybe. Ehhhh I already have some fancy ones that are still in shape. Still doesn't hurt to look.
"Cards for a Christmas present?" A soft feminine voice breaks my train of thought, making me jump. "Sorry. Next time I'll wear my jingle bells to keep from sneaking up on anyone." She giggles at me. I blush and scratch the back of my neck.
"Knowing myself, you'd still catch me by surprise," I mumble," And no, they aren't for Christmas. I just like cards. Even then, I wouldn't have anyone to give them too." I tell her. She frowns at that.
"Have no one, or don't want to?" She studies me. I look back at her. Stylish white hair, fair skin, 5'10", in good shape, green eyes, and fire truck red lips. She really doesn't seem like someone who goes to a bookstore.
"My parents are concerned with me living my life and reaching my 'full potential' and led by example," my voice drops a little in remembrance ," You know, instead of actually- actually being there. We- we aren't very close. Even then, on holidays everyone visited and I was just there sitting awkwardly. I got a few friends in college but we aren't very close. And my friends from high school kinda avoid me now. But I guess I'm used to it by now."
Pity glints in her eyes as they roam my face. Good luck with that. Since I was little I started hiding my emotions. Now no one can see them unless if I let them in. "I'll be your friend. And I'll get you a gift. And I won't leave. You can even come to my place for Christmas." She tells me confidently.
"Wait what? You- you just met me. I can't intrude. And you shouldn't waste your money on me to get me a gift. Me, someone you don't know the name of. Or let in your house. What about your family? I doubt they would be happy to have a random guy in there-" she clamps her hand over my mouth, glaring at me. The girl lowered her hand.
"First off, you from now on are my friend so I would not be letting in a stranger. Secondly, my family and friends would not mind having a new guest on Christmas and Christmas Eve. And at what part did I say you had the choice of not going sweetheart? Now then, I'm Nicole. Who are you?" Nicole gives me an expecting smile at me with her hand stretched out.
Blushing from her speech, I take her hand and shake it. "I'm- I'm Y/n. And- and are you really planning on getting me a gift like you said?" I question. This girl cannot be sane.
"Yup," Nicole says before taking a step to my side and twirls, intertwining our arms in one motion," now let's get some Starbucks and learn more about each other." She pulls me along with her.
