Chapter 8: Keep Him Out

~Grant~

Shortly after I walked out of the bank after making the withdrawal I needed, the three guys ended up spotting me walking through the village. Today was the day I had to give them the money so I wouldn't be surprised if they spent the whole day walking through the village until they found me.

As soon as they did see me, Donnie grabbed my arm and pulled me into a nearby alleyway because apparently, I couldn't give him money out in the open.

I did yank my arm out of his grasp as soon as we got into the alleyway. I did want to glare at him as well but I couldn't make them even more mad at me. I just had to give them money and hopefully they didn't try doing the same thing they did last time.

"So you got the money?" Donnie asked. "If not..."

"You're not going to be doing anything," I said, taking the money out of my back pocket and handing it to him. "Because I have the money here."

Like last time, Donnie got Travis to check the money to make sure it was real. When Travis confirmed it was, Donnie took the money back and placed it into his pocket. "I never thought you would get the money again so fast," Donnie said. "I guess threatening that Oliver boy does work. Good to know for future purposes."

"Future purposes?" I repeated. "No. There shouldn't be any future purposes. You wanted me to pay you back so I did double of what I truly owed you. That's it. Done."

Donnie snorted. "No, we'll tell you when you're done with us, which you're not. You still owe us about... Three hundred fifty dollars."

"From what?" I asked. "I paid you back from the poker game. I paid you back for the drugs. There's nothing else I need to pay you back for."

"But there is," Donnie said. "You almost ruined a few jobs for us. You could have jeopardize everything and made us lose clients. So you need to pay us back from those jobs that you decided to help out the people we were hired to go against."

"You're expecting me to pay you because I have morals?" I asked. "I didn't want to leave someone extremely injured."

"It doesn't matter what you want and didn't want to do," Donnie said. "It's a job. You think people with early morning shifts want to wake up at five in the morning? Or want to smile at all those customers who think they're always right? People get paid for doing what they're told, not for doing what they want."

"Funny, because you want me to pay you," I said. "And guess what? It's not happening."

"Oh, it is," Donnie said. "Because I was serious when I said we'll visit that little boy toy of yours. You got another week to get the money."

"Are you serious?" I asked. "One week to get three hundred fifty dollars? Even if I was going to pay you, that's not enough time."

"You don't get it, do you?" Donnie asked. "You are going to pay us because you know what will happen if you don't."

"Leave him out of this," I said. "Please."

I hated sounding so vulnerable around Donnie, Travis, and Orlando. I couldn't help it, though. I was so terrified that they would really do something to hurt Ollie. But I couldn't even hide my vulnerability. It had been so hard for me to keep my mind straight the past couple days.

Even if I was able to hide it, they already knew that threatening Ollie would work. I didn't know how they found out about him but they did. He was in danger as much as I was.
