Quick note: I changed the music school Ollie was supposed to go to a fictional one called LM Conservatory of Music. I figured it was better to use a fake one.
Chapter 27: A Second Chance
~Ollie~
I had never seen Grant so excited about something before and it was making me very happy for him. The music festival was finally here and Grant had been happy all morning of us getting ready. He was so excited to sing in front of a bunch of people again.
I was definitely excited to see him perform. I loved hearing him sing whenever we had a little jam session with my piano. I had only see him actually perform once and that was last year at the music festival. He had such an amazing stage presence so I couldn't wait to watch him.
There was still a bit of time before it was Grant's turn to perform so we spent some time looking at all the vendors, deciding what we should have for lunch. We weren't going to get food now since Grant said it wasn't best to eat right before singing.
After seeing all the vendors that were here, we found a bench to sit on, one that was near the stage so we could watch the performances. While we were watching the current performer, who was a cellist, I noticed a group of people I wasn't really in the mood to see.
I sighed heavily so Grant asked, "What's wrong?"
I gestured to the people. "Look who's here."
Grant furrowed his eyebrows. "I don't get it. Didn't Fred visit you when you were in the hospital? I thought you were on good terms."
"I thought so too," I said. "But then literally two weeks after I got out, he went back to being the same Fred. Ignoring my messages. Bragging about his achievements. Not to mention I saw him once during the summer when you weren't here and he, yet again, brought up the fact that I lost my scholarship."
"I want to punch him," Grant said. "Can I punch him?"
"What? No," I said. "I'm just hoping he leaves me alone today."
"If he doesn't and decides to bug you, can I punch him?" Grant asked.
"No punching, Grant," I said. "You do realize that you don't get exempt from unlawful behaviour just because your cousin is the police chief and your grandpa is the mayor, right?"
"Of course I know that," Grant said. "And I'm insulted because of it. If I was the police chief, I would let my cousins get away with everything."
"That right there is exactly why you'll never be a police officer."
"And because I'm not interested in being a police officer. Although if I am, I could arrest so many people. Donnie and his jerk friends, Reggie and his jerk friends, maybe even Fred and his jerk friends."
"Again, that's why you can't be a police officer. Fred didn't do anything illegal. He's just annoying."
"Being annoying should be illegal."
"Why? If it was, you do know that you would have been arrested a long time ago, right?"
Grant scowled. "You're so mean."
I rolled my eyes and kissed his cheek. "I still love you."
Grant's scowl immediately faded as he smiled. "Can we get married now?"
"Seriously?" I asked. "We're seventeen. We're not getting married. You can wait."
Grant sighed. "I'm going to be waiting in pain for a long time."
