This chapter is kind of short but sweet. Hope you all enjoy :)
Breakfast was filled with laughter and good vibes despite the fact that Dominic still hadn't shown his face to me the past couple of days. I spent the entire meal getting to know Jenna, Brent and a few other pack members who sat at our table. Even with everything going on with Dom, I was beginning to like living here. Everyone I had met was nice and went out of their way to make me feel welcomed, it honestly made it feel like it was one big family. Once Jack had finished his food I took him upstairs for a bath, he had somehow managed to get more syrup in his hair than on his actual pancakes. When he was dressed and ready for the day I took him back to the playroom.
I knew I was sure to get in some kind of trouble for this but I honestly didn't care anymore. So here I am, running full tilt towards Blood Moon territory. The air whipping through my hair giving me a whole new rush of energy. There was something about just running that made me happy, made me feel so alive. Quinn yipped happily as we neared the stream, it was honestly one of our favorite places to relax and spend the day napping away. Once I crossed into Blood Moon territory I was greeted almost instantly by Grant and Jim from border patrol.
'Nikita.' Grant greeted with a slight bow of his head, so slight I don't even think he realized what he was doing.
'Hey Grant, Jim.'
'Is John expecting you?' Jim asked, his tone clipped. I turned my head to look at him, shocked by his rudeness. I may not live here but I am still technically part of this pack.
'I wasn't aware that I needed an invitation to visit my family, Jim.' Quinn snickered at the amount of sarcasm laced in my voice while she mentally high-fived me. Jim growled lowly but chose to keep his mouth shut, smart pup.
'Well if we're done with the pleasantries, Jim and I have a patrol to finish. Nice seeing you again, Nikita.' Grant said, by his tone I could tell he was also annoyed by Jim's words.
'You too Grant, careful out there.'
'Always.' He gave me a wolfish grin before him and Jim trotted off down the trail.
Quinn and I continued towards the center of the pack lands, once the pack house was in view I stopped behind a large tree. I quickly dressed once I was back in human form before making my way into the pack house, choosing to use the backdoor in the kitchen. I just managed to close the door before I was tackled from the side by a screaming and squealing banshee from hell, or Maddie as others call her.
"Oh my god, you're here! You're here! I missed you so much!!" She screamed as she crushed my ribs in a bear hug.
"Dear god Madd.. It's only been like two days." I grunted out as I peeled her arms off of me so I could breathe again. She grumbled under her breath as she stood up and pouted down at me.
"Oh come on now, don't be a sour puss. I'm basically here as a refugee right now, I didn't tell anyone I was coming here. Who knows how long I will have before Conan comes to drag me back." Using a guilt trip always works and just as expected Maddie quickly reached down and pulled me to my feet before hugging me tightly again.
"Oh god Nik! I can't believe you ran away from him! He's going to be so pissed when he finds out, just imagine the look on his face." Her eyes were the size of golf balls as she spoke of Dominic. It seems her fear of him has only grown.
"Oh please, don't worry about a thing girl. I ain't worried about what that flea bag is going to do." I played it cool, not wanting to let her know I was also kind of worried about his reaction.
