"Hey..." Alex said as he allowed Hannah and Aiden in.
"Alex, how are you?" Aiden asked.
"I would be lying if I said I'm okay." He replied as they waled towards the couch.
"So he unlocked the phone." Hannah said as she pulled out Kay's phone from her pocket. "There's just one note, and a really long one that too."
"Did you read the whole thing?" Alex asked.
Aiden shook his head, "no."
"Do you think we could sit in her room for a bit?" Hannah asked.
"Yeah sure." Alex said and the two went upstairs.Kay's room was a light grey with everything pastel. A minimalistic room, a simple girl. Everything was so neatly organized that it felt as if even touching one of those things would hurt her.
"I've never seen her room so neat." Aiden said as he sat on the desk chair. "It's like as if it was all so intricately planned. She didn't want anyone to have to clean up after her."
Hannah pulled a stool from beside the desk, and sat in front of Aiden. Her eyes fell on glimmering silver necklace on the desk.
"Aiden, the necklace." She said pointing to it. Aiden slowly reached out for the necklace and held it in front of them both. A mid sized silver chain with a circular pendant that had an olive branch engraved on it. Behind the pendant was engraved Kayley's initials. Aiden handed the necklace to Hannah as he removed the Dog tag chain that he was wearing. Kayley gifted that to him last christmas, it had his name on it and had an antique look to it.
"Do you think you could get that on this?" Aiden asked Hannah.
"Yeah sure." She replied. About two minutes later Aiden's dog tag had Kayley's pendant on it and the chain of her necklace was in his wallet.
"I think you should read the next part of the note." Hannah said. Aiden nodded and unlocked her phone.
"Do you think she ever thought what we'd go through when she did it?" Aiden mused.
"I'm sure she did." Hannah replied.
"Then I hope she's seeing this right now. This pain and hurting we're going through." He said. A frown formed on Hannah's lips.
"This part's for you Hannah."Hannah, I know you'll be the strongest of everyone. I loved that about you. I wish I had that sort of courage. Being around you, your radiating happiness and strength made me feel temporarily empowered. Please don't let anyone ruin that for you. Thank you for being there for me all this time. I bought you a charm for your necklace, its in the top drawer of my desk. You were there for me, this isn't your fault but some things are just temporary in life. Nothing could have helped me out. Don't beat yourself up.
I love you Hannah.Hannah wiped off the stray tear from her cheek. Aiden kept the phone on the desk and opened the first drawer.
He carefully picked up the small black box from inside, and gave it to Hannah. Hannah stared at the box for a moment and took a deep breath as she opened it. A small delicate golden pendant in the shape of an Arrow rested on a bed of white satin fabric.
"What went wrong Aiden? Why did she do it?" Hannah let out a quiet sob. "It's like I'm waiting for her to walk in that door and laugh with us."
"Tell me about it Hannah. You two had so much and I was a fuckin coward. I couldn't tell her how much she meant to me. I couldn't hold her, kiss her, take her to prom. We could have gone to the same college, we could have dormed together." Aiden couldn't help but cry. He knew that this wasn't going to end for a while. Crying, consoling, memorials.
"I miss her so much Aiden." Hannah replied. Aiden kept a hand on her shoulder in consolation, "I miss her too Hannah. I miss her too."
