You had just finished confessing your crush on Steve to Natasha and she had encouraged you to go talk to him before everyone settled down for the night. You exited the hallway into this floors living area and found Steve waiting by an elevator.
You called out to him, "Hey, Steve! Wait up!"
He looked over his shoulder and smiled. "Hey, (y/n)," he said as you approached him. "What's up?"
"Nothing...I was wondering if you wanted to hang out or something. Maybe get to know each other better?" You paused. "God, that sounds like I'm coming onto you. I'm really not like that!"
He chuckled as the elevator opened. The two of you stepped in. "You're fine." As the doors closed, Steve asked you, "Is wanting to get to know someone really interpreted as wanting to be with them these days?"
"Most of the time. The guys today think every girl wants to get in their pants and if they don't want to then...well the guys will eventually convince them to do it anyway," you explained.
Steve looked aghast. "That's...awful."
"Yea..men suck. No offense," you replied.
"Real men aren't like that. Not respectable men anyways. And none taken." The elevator dinged and you followed him out onto the balcony.
It was chilly outside and you were only wearing a pair of pajama pants and a t-shirt. The unexpected rush of cold air sent chills down your body but you were never one to complain.
The two of you walked over to the railing. "You know," he started. "I've come out here every night for a month and this is the first time I've had company. It's nice."
"My pleasure," you replied standing next to him. You leaned into him a little to absorb his warmth. Without you noticing, he slipped off his leather jacket and wrapped it around your shoulders.
"You didn't have to do that...but thank you," you smiled.
"You're welcome, ma'am," he replied and returned your smile.
"What do you want to talk about?" you asked looking at him.
"Well, since we're trying to get to know each other maybe some common interests?" he suggested. "What kind of music do you like?"
"(Your Favorite Genre)," you replied a grin crossing your face. "What about you? You like any music of the last like seventy years?"
He laughed and his breath created a steam cloud. "Some of its good. I like Foreigner. Do you know Foreigner?"
"You're hot blooded?" You joked nudging his arm.
"Not when I was frozen.." he replied smiling fully at you. You couldn't tell if it was the silly pun, or the way he could crack jokes at his expense, or the way he made you feel when he smiled at you but you let out a booming laugh and threw your head up towards the sky.
"You're bad, Cap," you said gently shoving his arm, still smiling from ear to ear.
He ducked his head and was still smiling.
"Hey! Do you know what we need?" Without explanation, you went inside to fix some hot chocolate.
Outside, Steve was staring at the stars counting his blessings and marvelling at the fact that you had opted to spend time with him tonight. He couldn't stop thinking about your musical laughter or the way the smell of your shampoo hung on the breeze even after you'd gone inside. He was still thinking about you when you returned with an arm load of blankets and two mugs of hot chocolate.
He took the blankets from you and spread the largest one over the cold concrete. He took the two cups from you and held them so you could sit down. He handed the hot cups back to you and proceeded to wrap a blanket around your shoulders (you had left the jacket inside). He sat beside you and took his cup back.
"Now everything's perfect," you smiled at him.
"Almost," was his reply as he pulled out his phone. A few beats later, "I Want To Know What Love Is" started playing. "Now. Now it's perfect."
His blue eyes were fixed on yours as you felt happiness spread though your body.
The two of you sat in the crisp night air drinking your hot chocolate and making small talk.
After a while you laid back and covered yourself with your blanket. Steve laid on his back beside you and pointed out the big dipper.
"What else do you like?" He asked?
You.
"Cuddling." It was out of your mouth before you could think about it.
Steve laughed. "I've actually never cuddled with anyone before."
"What?!" You asked jerking up. "That won't do." With your heart beating twice it's normal speed, you laid down beside him and hesitantly put your head on his shoulder.
"This is...nice..." He said putting an arm around you.
You couldn't put together a sentence so you just let out a happy sigh.
"(Y/n)...can I confess something to you?" he whispered sounding a little sleepy.
You turned so that you were face to face with him. "Always."
He looked deeply into your eyes and said, "I'm crazy about you. I know we haven't known each other for that long and we've only really started to learn about each other tonight but...you make me happy. I smile when I think about you."
Your breath was caught in your throat and you couldn't make a sound. "I feel the same way about you, Steve. There's something about you that just makes me want to dance in the rain and never stop smiling."
"You should never stop smiling anyway. Your smile is beautiful," he said pushing a strand of hair away from your eyes.
"I don't suppose you care for kissing girls you barely know ," you say barely above a whisper. You rested your hand on his broad chest.
"Ma'am...I feel like I've known you for a lifetime." He leaned in and placed a soft kiss on your lips. His lips were warm and tasted like hot chocolate.
"Finally," you thought. "Best. Night. Ever."
