"Okay remember what I told you. Be your own boss. Love yourself. Get up and dance. Level up." Ciara's voice boomed through my phone speaker forcing me to wake up. I grabbed my phone from underneath my pillow blindly tapping the screen in an effort to answer it with my eyes closed"

My thumb finally landed on the home button "What!" I barked annoyed. I hate being disturbed by anything besides my alarm and even my alarm constantly pisses me off.

"Is that how you answer your mother? " Mom questioned from the other end.

"Good morning mom" I deadpanned.

"That's better and good afternoon" she began "don't forget you have Jayden's memorial to attend on Saturday."

I began to grow light headed at the mention of his name and a wave of sadness engulfed me.

"Has it been a year already since the last memorial?" I whispered.

"Yes it has. Don't you think it's time you came to terms with Jayden's death?" She asked." I know Jayden was your best friend and you witnessed his death, but it's been seven years" She continued.

"I know. I'll be there." I ended the conversation abruptly unable to keep my emotions at bay for much longer.

It's not that I don't want to attend Jayden's memorial. It's just that it brings back unbearable memories.

"Good. See you Saturday" was all she said before hanging up.

I lay in silence for what seemed like ages trying to rid my mind of the memories that were threatening to surface at the mention of Jayden's name.

Finally able to take control of my thought process, I slowly peeled my eyes open and couldn't help but scream when I saw the time. 12:03 p.m.

"Jas! Get your skinny ass in here!"

Jas came walking into my room holding up two really cute dresses "Which one do you prefer?" She asked keeping her eyes fixed on the dresses.

"Jasmine, can you tell me why I'm not at school teaching my students the history of men's irrelevance?" I asked trying to remain calm.

"I think the blue one will blend really well with your complexion" she recommended completely ignoring my question.

"Jas!" I shouted.

"Ok fine" she caved. "You came home pretty late last night and"

"Spying on me again?" I cut her off.

"No. Not this time. I was on the phone with Javier and I happened to hear you come in. Anyway I know you'd be tired so I called Mr. Mac and told him we had food poisoning and couldn't make it today" she told me.

"And he bought it?" I asked curiously.

"Ofcourse he bought it, he's the most gullible guy we know" she laughed.

"Yeah you're right" I joined in. "Wait, what are those dresses for? " I stopped laughing.

"We are going on a lunch date" she answered.

I burst into a fit of laughter "For a moment there I thought you said WE had a lunch date."

"Yeah that's what I said" she raised an eyebrow at me placing the back of her hand on my forehead as if checking my temperature. "Are you feeling okay?"

"I'm fine" I rolled my eyes swatting her hand away. "Who's the psychopath?" I queried.

"It's kind of a double date with me, you, Javier"

"Woah, hold up sister" I cut her off. "I don't do threesome."

"I said Double date not threesome" She threw her hands in the air. "As I was saying before being rudely interrupted, Javier will be bringing his friend that just moved to town. So no lame excuse of being a third wheel" she finished.
