I Can Not Let You Love Me

I can not let you love me.

I regret a lot of things
And one of them is letting you
Get closer than you should
I watched you crossed the line
And even picked you up
when your footing slipped
Down the slippery mud
That barricaded the hunger
That was in my heart.

I can not let you love me.

Picturing myself
As half of a couple
Is a wonderful indulgence
And brings me more joy
Than I care to admit
But once the dream ends
And the fantasy came to a realization
The air becomes hot and thick
And the sound of my running shoes
Gets louder in my ear.

I can not let you love me.

I can only bring you pain
Devastation and anger
which is, I'm afraid,
more than you can handle
You are weak
Your walls couldn't hold on
And with the tremor
That my running shoes could create
You will shatter.

I can not let you love me.
I can never be what you wanted.
I can never be what you need.
I can only be who I am:
Untamed.
Wild.
Free.
